Funny thing. I love poor stories threads. One reply was that his daddy took him crappie fishing and only gave him the dip net. His job was to catch the minners when they fell off the hook while catching a fish.

Great brains must think alike. I thought that I made it up. I've never heard it either. My father and I used to love crappie fishing. He would always reuse his minnow after a catch if it was still on the hook. Unfortunately I lost my father and best friend to cancer 3 years ago. I tell my daughter that is my fishing buddy now to always get a good live minnow.

Sorry about your father. Keep using those live minners and teaching your daughter. When I was much younger a good friend and I would go to a pay fishing barge and I would tell him life is to short to fish with dead minnows because he’d sit there for an hour with no bite and a dead minnow if I let him lol.

We weren’t poor but my dad was very frugal. I used to walk down Barnes Bridge Rd. in Dallas across Shiloh Rd. to several hundred acres of farmland and fish in the 1960’s ( it’s all Fox&Jacobs homes since the 80’s now). I had a Crossman M-1 Carbine push barrel BB gun and would point shoot minnows and that’s how I got my bait.
