I want one, I've heard the street price will be about $1200. Can't put a blueprinted Savage together for that price.

Proof is the only place I found that has ready to ship savage prefits with cut rifling. A note of interest is that Proof all stainless barrels are holding second on average in major competitions only being bested by bartlein if memory serves. They’re doing it with about 25% of bartleins entry’s as well. That’s 4 bartleins to every proof and they’re still holding second.

Sorry, that was unrelated to your post. Just wanted to share that they’ve became a player to consider. Wonder if they’re going to offer it in left hand at the sub $1500 price.

I just called Savage and, in order to save weight, the Accufit stock they're using on the Ultralight does not have a full length bedding rail/block, it does have pillars though.

At 6 pounds I'd be adding some weight to that gun anyway. Even a .243 that light, with a light scope on top, has a lot more recoil that you might expect on such a light rig.

I bet the carbon fiber wrapped barrel probably helps a ton with the balance and feel though, especially after adding some weight to the buttstock or upgrading it. I have read that they are more rigid than steel to boot.

I would like one for myself.

Cool gun looking at the specs. But why on earth would you order one in .300 WSM? Ultra light and magnum cartridges is no bueno.

I don't care for it. Looks like a cheap-O rifle with an expensive barrel on it

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

It's a Savage....it's what they are and if it wasn't for the price I'd venture to say they'd sell 1/4 of what they do now.

Savage could have done it right by throwing it in a grayboe stock. What they are selling now looks like a 200 dollar rifle with a 700 dollar barrel. Lipstick on a pig. Honestly even at a street price of 1200 its overpriced considering you can get a new 110 for 300 bucks and a screw on proof barrel for 700.

No a Savage fan at all but that is an improvement in looks for sure. I bet the MAP will be less than 1k. Still cant hide that bolt shroud and handle though. good for Savage.
