I'd love to make the journey & go, but where to stay? I assume there's not a chance to stay at the Omni (?)

I always stay at the Hyatt, when I do go. Only whistle britches stay at the Omni. There's a sickening frenzy the day reservations open up for who wants to be seen. hammer

You should go and at least buy a pair of boots. It's easy.

I'm not going to make it this year. I was thinking it was the following weekend and scheduled a hunt with a bunch of buddies. I'll be sure to double check next years schedule a little closer.

Who bought what?

If I go again, I gotta remember to go Wednesday afternoon and leave, at least the exhibits, before Saturday early morning. There are a few short seminars that are worth attending, and anyone can walk in on those, they don't check tickets, admission stamp etc. But Saturday has just too many Whistling Gophers, doing the "cowboy shuffle" - hands in pockets, sticking their elbows out as wide as possible to take up the maximum amount of room in the aisle, and just sauntering along as slow as possible, looking everything up...……….and down.

Speaking of pretend cowboys - who's the TV hunting dude with the stringy long blond hair and the cowboy hat? He "sauntered" into a booth while I was in the middle of buying something and looked like he expected the world to stop. The hunting world has some strange characters.

Hilarious. We went Saturday, and yeah, you nailed it. I did enjoy visiting the booths of a few of the manufacturers that I wanted to. I still believe that DSC Convention is the hands down winner to see trophies....trophy wives with sugar daddies.

I enjoyed going although I'm too broke to book an exotic hunt. Texas WT's are exotic enough for this San Antonio boy! But I really loved talking to the gun, scope & accessory manufacturers. A couple of things that I learned or thought were interesting:
  • If you dry fire a Dakota 10 single shot rifle there is a good chance the firing pin will break. hammer
  • Hornady has nothing new in reloading equipment for 2020 crying
  • Remington custom shop manufactures Dakota Arms Falling block #10 action for them. You can buy the action alone from Remington custom shop for about $1,700 retail. Same with Remington 700 actions LA & SA already blue printed & recoil lug pinned. Buy them direct with Timney triggers & other options. happy3
  • Sightron scopes, no matter the price range, all have the same quality of glass. The difference in price is for the adjustments, lighted reticles, etc. Their cheapest scope is the optical equal to there most expensive. up
  • Sightron has developed a scope that ranges, drop compensates & adjusts for the wind! It uses dopler-radar for this magic. At least that is what the rep said. confused2
  • I also learned what a "bongo" is & that it cost $30k+ to shoot one. Looks like they'd make a lot of sausage, but I'll have to pass. loser8
  • I really liked the skin-tight britches all the girls selling raffle tickets were wearing! That alone was worth the entry fee! up

FWIW

Trijicon is the same as Sigtron when it comes to the same glass for all scopes. It's the add-ons, i.e. illuminated reticles, exposed turrets, etc etc that drives the prices. Glass is the same across the board. I wasn't aware of this either until the rep mentioned that to me.

I love the DSC.....on Thursday and Friday. I dodged 3 tornados getting back Friday evening going back home but I don’t think it was worse than navigating the crowd on Saturday.

Went and did what I needed to do, saw some friends, had a few drinks ( ok more than a few ) and had a good dinner with friends and colleagues.

It can get overwhelming trying to gather info for hunts, and trying to keep up with all the gear and new technology. The taxidermy displays are my favorite part by far.

Overall a neat show that I enjoy going to.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
