You're a good man! Hope you find the rightful owner!! Agree- good someone honest found it. My question is though, how does someone lose a gun? If you find the rightful owner, it would be interesting if you post an update with the circumstances of how the gun was lost in the first place.

Gdogg you probably already did this, but call the local sheriff and game warden too. Good job

The most common mistake hunters make is leaning a cased gun against their vehicle or placing it on top while packing up to go home. They forget it’s there and drive off.
Several years ago I found a brand new Browning Gold 12ga.Semi Auto in a case in a parking lot of a public hunting area. I passed an SUV that was coming out of the dirt road on my drive in so I figured it probably belonged to him. I waited about a half hour and sure enough he returned. I asked him if he forgot something and he related the story and description of the gun. He just got the gun as a Christmas present from his family and it was the first time hunting with it. Needless to say he was very grateful to get it back.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. Edmund Burke

My question is though, how does someone lose a gun? If you find the rightful owner, it would be interesting if you post an update with the circumstances of how the gun was lost in the first place. I've seen it a couple of times. I was dove hunting on one of the big DFW outfitter places when I found a Citori. Contacted the lease manager and got it back to the owner. Another time a buddy of mine left his leaned up against a fence on a public spot after a duck hunt. He went back that afternoon and luckily it was still there. I'm usually in a boat so its hard to leave a gun behind LOL. Although, I did get all the way back to the ramp after a solo hunt this year, got the boat on the trailer, then remembered I left the dog stand.

They may think it was stole because they went to poo and came back to find it gone.

I left mine leaning against a tree in the middle of the woods once. I had killed a deer, field dressed, and drug the deer to the road. Totally forgot about my rifle until I was back at camp. It was dark then, and no rain forecast, so I just went back and retrieved it the next morning. It happens. I get it.

Driving back from a hunt on the coast...muddy field road...said to the wife..."That looked like a magazine cap!" walked back and that was exactly what it was...a little ways further...a barrel half in the muddy rut, and half out...rinsed it off and dried it....as we got to the paved road, a fore end and the the stock and receiver assembly...just short of the paved road...a few scratches but now I had all the pieces...drove to a convenience store nearby for some drinks and eats, then drove back and waited...about an hour later a Suburban flew by us before I could get out and flag the driver down...about 30 minutes later he returned, and I got out with his shotgun...told him the story about finding the pieces of the "puzzle"...and he related that he and the gun had gone into the water...he had disassembled it and left it on the roof to dry out while he did the same...forgot the gun parts and was driving home buck naked, when he remembered it...he was embarrassed and bare azzed on the same day !!!

My question is though, how does someone lose a gun? .
Bo Whoop, arguably the most famous duck gun ever, was lost by being left against a car fender. Please see this ARTICLE

Last year we found 2 shotguns on the road down to a private lake that nobody else has permission to hunt.
Remington 1100 20ga I believe and maybe an 870 if I remember right.
Landowner has them now...
Probably Elpatoloco's...

That’s a bad day for that guy. Good on you for collecting the parts and waiting around.

Very nice. I lost my cell phone back in the day up there in a driving rain storm after fishing. Luckily remembered it and found it amazingly. Guy died by lightening in the same storm at another lake. It was nuts.
