I'm tired of hitting my trucks antenna on the garage every-time I pull in the garage or have the guy remove it every-time I get it washed. All this cant be good for connection.

SO, I've seen on Amazon, there are short, replacement antennas. some get good reviews

anyone here use them with good results?

Get the original rubber shorty antenna. They have good specs. I run one just for the car wash. Rarely use it as I use Sirius.

I’ve been using one from Amazon for years. It should have been original equipment.

Look for the 3” carbon fiber model.

I have TheStubby on my truck and jeep. The truck had HD radio and it limits the range by about 25% from the factory radio. I listen to my Bluetooth 95% of the time so it's a non-issue. I bought one for my step-dad and it was enough of a factor for him to go back to the long boy.

Have them on both my Jeep Wranglers. Love them. They work great.

The ball end will come off pretty easily. Just cut yours down to clear and re-attach the ball with some epoxy. Did mine 6 years ago.

I took mine off and looked where the paint was worn off. Took a Dremel cut off just below that but still over the height of the cab....it's a great warning for you're going somewhere you shouldn't be. Oh and I never put the ball back on.

I liked my full antenna. It was my "feeler" - my measuring stick - when in the limited garages my truck will fit in. First the ball came off the end and now the end is worn down so much more and has proven less reliable as of late. Read into that what you will, you're probably right.

Here’s the model I used on both trucks. Keep the OEM so if you find yourself in the boonies, you can easily swap back. Don’t trim your original and expect it to perform at spec.

The short ones are ugly and don't work as well as the factory equipment.

I have the shorty on my Rebel, it doesn't work as good as the longer OEM.

Antennas can't be some random length and work effectively.. An antenna length should be a fraction of the signal wave you are trying to receive and/or transmit. Radio waves in the US FM radio band are from 2.78 to 3.41 meters long. (roughly 9 to 11 feet). However this length is not practical on a vehicle, so most car manufactures use a 1/4 wave antenna of 75cm (29-1/12 inches). You can also go to and 1/8 wave antenna of 37.5cm (roughly 15 inches) and get decent results.

BUT.. Every time you halve the length, you halve the signal strength. Also you must use the 1/2 rule. 1/3 wave or 5/16 wave antenna are only as good as their closest neighbor. ( A 17" antenna is no better than a 15")

This is a radio wave formula - no amount of copper coil, gold plating, unobtanium metal is going to change your results. Save your money.
