I’m just west of Newcastle, plenty of does and small bucks but the mature deer have vanished.

I saw at least 100 deer between Haskell and Newcastle this evening driving home, one bobcat, and probably 50 hogs. Not a single buck. I was making that drive between 3 and 4PM. There is always one field loaded with deer and hogs that time of day before you drop down bull hill headed east. I wish I’d had my rifle in the truck to hunt this evening. I saw a big hog that needs to die on my spot near Proffett cemetery. Animals were really moving this afternoon.

We hunted mid-week last week, an 11pt and a 9pt were taken at the feeders, Did see some chasing. Will be back out after Christmas, hopefully it'll be good.

This is getting ridiculous. No deer.

Slow Stub, typical nighttime feeder activity with this full moon cycle. Most of the early year good bucks have ceased coming in, either met their demise or moved on. Think the natural browse this season has worked, not in our favor...

My brother last night sent me 8 different day pics from trail cam in Young County. Several nice 8 pointers and does at feeders each day. Told me to come get me some meat for the freezer.

I went a little more than a week ago. Looked up at the oaks around me and the oaks had not dropped half the acorns yet. So many acorns on the ground at another stand it was like walking on bubble wrap to get to it. We are half bottomland so have a variety of oaks. Even the big pecan trees were just starting to drop pecans only last week. My feeders all had remnants of whole corn being left under them, so even the hogs were not using the feeders as much as usual. My food plot failed because of a long period of no rain right after it sprouted and our fields were not planted with wheat by the rancher this year. Other than the first week of season, all buck pictures have been at night. From what I saw and a neighbor saw, the peak of the rut was early this year. I saw bucks chasing does all over the county as I drove out of it on back roads the first week of season. The neighbor living next to my lease took several pictures of bucks chasing does same time frame. He has not seen much since. Nor have I. Other than the early rut, this is typical for us in a year when there is a lot of mast and no wheat planted on our place. Especially when there is wheat planted other fields near us and there is. I have hunted the place almost 20 years and this is probably the largest and latest drop of acorns, hickory nuts, and pecans I have ever seen on the place. I have seen some night game cam pictures of some really nice bucks on our place and next door. I can only assume our neighboring leases are having as much trouble finding them, so it only means those bucks are going to be another year older next year.

I'm west of Olney, didn't see many bucks on camera heading into Oct too much natural food I guess. Opening day and first part of the week was kinda slow only seeing a few does and small bucks. Then it started picking up. Shot this guy the second Sat of deer season. My buddy got one a tad smaller the following day. Neither of these bucks ever showed up on camera. [Linked Image]

Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

How's it going in Young county for everyone. Predominantly nocturnal feeder activity out my way...

Was at our place down the road from you (south end of 3109) Sunday and Monday. Ghost town. Not even many tracks in the wheat. Very strange.

DQ, we’ve had a good year here. Although not much feeder activity per se, deer still come by feeder locations (not eating much at the feeders).

Got this nice buck last weekend, never went to the feeder, but came by the location.
