When you buy a gun from someone like "Guns of America" or "Gun Broker" what is the process to do that? Do you have to contact someone with a FFL first or what?

I have a local FFL that has given me some copies of his FFL and a electronic copy as well so I can email it to the seller.
if you have never done it before I would get with a FFL beforehand.
gunbroker has FFL listings by zip code and it normal list the cost as well

DCS,
It would be best to find an FFL near you first. Be sure to ask/find an FFL that will receive a firearm shipped from an individual as well as another FFL. Many guns sold on the auction sites can be from individuals. Some transfer FFLs will only receive a firearms shipped by another dealer even though the law does not require it.

A couple good resources for you.

It's pretty much like Ebay, they take money orders, pay pal and credit cards. You just have to read the auction under payment and they will tell you how to pay. I found a dealer through Guns America and they have their own site. I have purchsed 4 guns from them in their layaway plan of 25% down and 60 days. It would be nice to purchase guns in your home state but you don't have to pay sales tax since their in S. Dakota.I shop around the Houston Area first before buying. You want to make sure you will actually save money since you have to pay shipping and a transfer fee. That total may be less then what you would pay for tax in your own area. their website is www.onlinegundeals.com they sell on Gunsamerica as well.

when you pay from the website- some take credit cards (some with an extra fee for them and most do Cashiers Check or money order. I prefer the credit card method just to speed things up. Also when you find your local FFL- be sure to ask what they charge. Mine only charges $10.00, but I have seen some charge $35.00. The average is about $20.00 for a transfer, so do some shopping around

Well, technically you are still suppose to pay sales tax even if purchased out of state over the internet.

I've never pay taxes on anything I've bought online rifles, ammo, or anything else!! Never heard of paying taxes unless the store is in your state.

That doesn't mean you aren't SUPPOSE to. I don't know anyone that does, but you are suppose to keep up with what you purchase without sales tax and pay the equivalent. Might want to read this.

When you buy a gun online your dealing with the dealer not the govt. If that dealer is out of state you don't fiil out the ATF Form 4473 till it's transferred to a dealer in your state. The main thing the govt. is watching is Child Porn downloads, terrorism and probably funds coming from Mexico to purchase gun transferred to the border states.

unless paypal has changed their policy, they won't complete the tranaction if they are aware that its a firearm transaction.

That's pretty crazy on the use tax, thank god they don't have enough brains to somehow make it where companys have to collect the tax on things shipped to Texas. That would be a little change for Texas!!! We're lucky!!
