Well we started out the season by my kiddo laying the smack down on a great hill country doe! She then shifted her focus to getting a mature buck. We scrolled through game pics every week and she picked out the buck she wanted to chase. As most know that hunt the hill country hunting over feeders this year has been tough! Acorns, warm weather and moon was killing us. Plus this buck was hard to pattern. He would hit 6 of the 8 feeders on the ranch all at random times. We put in over 150 hours in the blind. Towards the end I was green lighting her on any buck that came out! She always told me NO I am getting my deer and not shooting a small or young deer. This made me really proud. This kid has been in the blind with me since she was a year old and we have always discussed proper ma nagement and she stuck to it. Well 12/20 it payed off huge for her. I first spotted the buck moving in from the west about 300 yards out and could tell he had lost a lot of weight during the rut. I got a good chance to really judge him and make sure it was his time. He walked into the feeder area stepping right over the corn heading to the hay. He stepped broadside and I told her whenever she was ready. I could hear her go through the steps breath, aim and squeeze. At the shot I watched in the binos as the buck fell in his tracks. The quest was over, we waited 10 mins before we celebrated making sure deer was down for the count. After that the celebration began and boy was I proud. She was in tears and shaking and I was shaking. She used a .243 with reduced recoil loads from Chad at Dallas Reloading.

Man it has worked really well for her and I enjoy shooting it. The round you built shoots 3/4” groups. She will be taking it to Africa this summer. I have tested it on axis and it works great.
