I am Left handed.

I found a one year old 686 SP I sporting at LGS, and could not resist. Even though I (excitedly) shouldered it, and declared it good..
I later came to realize that this RH shotgun does not work so well for a Lefty.

I wasn't really looking at mid-bead. I patterned it today, and while the barrels were in good registration and the pattern good, I was shooting to the right, at 17 yards or so.
My other Shotguns with no cast do not do that.

Then after looking more at mid bead, I realized I am pointing it to the right...
A LH stock is too much $$. I could have ordered a new gun for the most part. A new LH Stock I think requires inletting / fitting too and I cant do that with confidence

Am in a quandary should I just suck it up and appreciate the savings over a new gun, or sell it.

Hopefully TDK will jump in but I’d think the stock could be steamed and bent fairly reasonably.

@Timbertoes - I feel your pain, or at least I did at one time.

I am right handed and bought a 687sp and the stock started to split at the tang just below and to the right of the safety; after removing the stock it was quite obvious there was a poor fitting/inletting job and the area that cracked was taking all the recoil force...... we're talking about a newly purchased gun that had 500 or less rounds through it in the course of 18months.

I sent it back to Beretta and was shocked by their response - "Our wooden stocks are only warrantied for 1 year; we can try to match the wood color of the but stock and the cost for replacement would be $685 - total cost to replace the forend and but stock would be $975."

At that point I decided to sell the gun and I will NEVER buy another Beretta shotgun with a wood stock!

Beretta's customer interactions are neither service or relations. If you like the gun it is cheaper to adjust the stock than to buy a new gun.

When I once entertained the thought of a 686, I went to the LGS & shouldered one until I got tired. It did not fit at all & I wasn't interested in getting it adjusted. I bought a Citori White Lightning instead. I will have the stock adjusted soon & never look back. I bought the gun in 2008 if I recall correctly. After cashing in on the Browning rebate of $150, I paid $850 for the gun new. They now sell for pretty much double that.

This topic hits close to home for me. For years I lusted for a Browning Cynergy. A buddy has one and I shoot it very well. After a couple of years looking for a deal on a used one, I got impatient and bought a new 686 SP1. Over the course of a several months and 500 or so shotshells I gave up on shooting it. I really wanted to love the 686 but absolutely could not shoot it. I’m not a shotgunner and couldn’t tell you why I couldn’t hit with it all I can tell you is I’ve never had as poor results hitting with a shotgun as I did with that 686.

I tried, trap, skeet, sporting clays and several dove hunts with terrible results. The final straw for me was a dove hunt with my FIL that looked more like Argentina than Texas. There were birds everywhere and we should have had 5 minute limits. Everyone was was finished killing their limits and I was three boxes in with 4 birds down. I borrowed my FILs 1187 ranch gun and finished up my birds within a few minutes. After that I was over the 686 and gladly sold it. The new owner loves it.

I can hit some skeet with it ok, but due to the RH cast, I have to lean my head/cheek a bit more than on my other two no-cast shotguns. Or they have less cast anyway lol!

P_102, it is a 30" Sporting SP I. original chokes. I can see it has been used on the clays range by a RH shooter, some wear on the finish. Nothing too bad. I guess it may be called 98%.
Opens and closes nicely.
If I sell it, I would need 1500. that was what I paid.

deewayne, that's just poor service, if a stock cracked like that, and it was obvious it have never been mistreated, dropped etc, they can afford to do better.
It is a BS price for a hunk of walnut, even higher grade. at most the raw wood would cost THEM $50 or less. They CNC those things and mass-spray them in a booth.. They might have all of $100 in the Stock. I can see $600+ from a decent individual stock maker who operates less efficient copy tools and hand works them and tries to make a living.
