Ripped my acl off my femur, tore my meniscus along with fracturing my tibula.

Got one right now. Orthopedic doc said I’ll need a knee replacement later, but not now. Cortisone shot and knee brace and I’m better, but not great.

My grand mother had knee replacement due to a torn meniscus.

Winner! That sounds like a whole lotta fun.

Most of the time they won’t try to repair them unless you are a young athlete. There’s not a lot of blood flow to get things to grow back together, so they usually just clean them up as best they can.

Yes I had a partially torn meniscus. I had arthroscopic surgery to shave it with minimal problems. They also discovered that I had a slightly dislocated hip that's caused more problems then the meniscus.

I had what they call a ‘bucket handle tear’ in the left knee. The doc scoped it and all was well. Back to running and tennis. It was back in the late 70’s I think. That sort of thing does not necessarily lead to a knee replacement.

Ripped my ACL in HS and got fixed over 30 years ago using my patella and still good as new but hear meniscus is worse. Get the best doc!!! Friends daughter just did hers. Long recovery but will be normal in a few months. Check out options!!! More pain is more gain actually.

Tore mine on the Sheriff's dept obstacle course about 8 years ago. (Too old and big for that stuff). They paid for repairs, 3 small holes in knee, no big deal. After surgery started riding my bike everyday and a week later I was rolling along pretty good and have never thought about it since. Get it done if you can, sooner the better.

Twice. The first time I was chasing a youngster who had some warrants. I stepped in a hole. Fixed with scope surgery. It was a buckhorn tear. Second time was a year and half ago. Yep, stepped in a hole covered in leaves. Surgeon put in some stem cells trying to rebuild it. Worked some but not good enough. Looking at a knee replacement when I can afford 3 months off

Yes and hope they repair instead of remove it. Repair is better in the long run, removal equals knee replacement later on in life.

Yep, right knee in '15. Ortho told me "you're too old and too fat to be jogging".

Yup had mine done there. Just didn't tell me the bottom right side of my knee would never have feeling in it again. Had patella acl surgery.(right leg)

Good luck, mine was bad!

Had one two years ago - complex tear that had been there for awhile and I finally got it fixed.
wife had one this year - complex tear
daughter has had two of them. The first one was from volleyball in 7th grade and then she tore it again in 8th grade when a girl tackled her during a basketball game (lousy [censored] middle school basketball refs). She had a complex tear the first time. The second tear went right through the previously stitched area.

The surgery isn't overly complex, but your knee will still hurt for about 6 months as it heals. If you are going to do it, start strengthening your leg and core muscles now. It will help greatly with how quickly you recover.

Thanks,
Rich
