I am considering doing part of my yard around the pool in turf. Anybody else done this? Pros/cons? Price?

I got a quote for $9/ft which seems decent from what I've read online, but curious if anyone else has experience.

Thanks guys.

Have a customer who has it around her pool, looks good so far. The washed away sand is a pain in the pool.

Yes, with a decomposed granite base.

Thinking about having my backyard done, dog has destroyed the ST Augustine.

I had Lone Star (link) do a portion of our backyard and a play area for the grand kids. I went with a thick, high-end turf made to take a beating. I cannot imagine what quality would cost only $9 per foot installed. We paid far more (sod removal, prep, base compacting, liner, edging, turf, color fill, and final sweep). It was more like $35 all-in.

Yeah I don’t think $9/ft installed is getting you much. Maybe used football turf. We were going to have our backyard done. To scrape the grass off, bring in sand, and a quality turf that resembled Bermuda, it was around $30/ft or $60,000 for the backyard.

It is a new build so there is no sod removal or prep required, they just have to put down the base and the turf. I'm not sure why it is so much less expensive. I'll try to get some details.

I have seen a few homes where they did the entire backyards, most had pets. I asked them how they liked it and everyone seemed to like it.

Even though you won’t have to water it, I would still have a zone added to the backyard with a drip irrigation around the house foundation the fence. Just a thought.

holey carp, $30 a foot for fake turf? Just out of the blue that seems really high. Looked in our cost book it says for football field turf with a shock pad under installed is 10-14 a foot. Probably run a little more for a smaller area.

FWIW.....That little L shaped area next to the patio and around the fountian was $3k.

A whole backyard is going to be $$$$$$.

My neighbor had her 15' x 20' front yard done about 8 years ago and it's aged extremely well. I think she paid ~$15/ft at the time. Other than maybe needing a little stretching it's pretty close to perfect still. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Any idea how large of an area that is? I would also think the shape and sidewalks/fountain would affect the price as well.

Seems like whoever quoted $30 a foot installed is ripping your head off. Based on searching several local websites the $9 a foot seems about right with no prep required.....just one example I found:

https://syntheticgrasspros.com/our-pricing/

I'm sure there are some variations based on material, and working around the house/yard/concrete/etc., but I wouldn't expect to pay more than triple for that.

TBar, that looks great. I'd love to do the whole backyard. Just guesstimating in your picture looks to be maybe 200 sq ft, so maybe around $15/ft?

Not sure why this isn’t a more popular or normal option. Saving $30 a week for lawn mowing and maintenance. I agree you still need to water your fence and slab

May 2013 price was $7.75 sq ft for 350 sq ft installed plus tax.

I had to pay for the whole square(ie - waste).

It was a pretty complicated install with many steps.

Just buy cheap outdoor patio carpet and lay it out over the ground.

Cheap. Easy to install. And can easily and cheaply replace every few years.

I agree, upfront cost is high though.
