Are you looking for a spotting scope or a rifle scope

If a spotting scope...
How far do you want to detect animals?
How far do you want to be able to recognize animals?
What is your budget?

If a rifle scope....
What sort of hunting environment will you be in? (wooded, open field, etc.)
How far do you normally plan on shooting?
How far is your max intended range of shooting?
What is your budget?

It's all about how much you have to spend. Most of us can't afford the fancy stuff DNS has. smile

But those are indeed the correct questions …

I would get something like this and move up: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Armasight-TAT176WN2PRED22-FLIR-Predator-336-2-8x25-Thermal-Weapon-Sight-Used/303396797642?epid=22031289073&hash=item46a3dbbcca:g:QasAAOSwxR1d79~3

FWIW - I got a monocular/spotting scope first and loved it so I just got thermals that were the same type and controls.

Don't under-estimate the Lawyer's comments on the value even a basic thermal monocular brings for spotting of "something's out there" to look at with your rifle vs having to scan with your rifle all the time. This will become readily apparent after your 2nd or 3rd hunt. Not saying you have to buy one upfront, just know you will after getting the rifle scope.

I had an original THoR with a 25'ish objective. It's better than nothing, but I would stay with something 35'ish or above. FLIR PTS have a good reputation, anything Pulsar and Pig Popper has a thread running below on some new Thermal he came across.

Save yourself some coin and consider a used Thermal Monocular, all of my Thermal stuff has been used and trouble-free, knock, knock. There's an $1800 FLIR Breach on ebay. (not anymore...)

Pulsar should have something in your range. See if you can find a local dealer and work with them on price. You could find someone with a few units they're trying to move before year's end and get a decent deal.
