Jesse Cummings was the Tiger’s coach. Frankie Rouse, Corsicana High School senior, was the Tiger’s number one pitcher. A semi-final game had tigers playing Port Reches. Frankie pitched a shut-out and masterful performance. 18 strike-outs in seven innings. Struck out the side in four different innings. A total of eight consecutive strike-outs. All three records still exists after 60 years. A class 3-A championship game had Tigers playing South San Antonio High School. A famed Texas coach years later was the South San Antonio head coach. Frankie was called on to pitch a second gamer. Tigers were ahead 3-0 after three innings. A total of four errors made by the Tigers and South San Antonio went on to win the game. Frankie was drafted by Kansas City in 1958. In may 1959 Tigers were playing Nacagdoches in a Bi-district play off game. I was called on to pitch a second game. We lost first game there, 5-0. Second game was played at home at old Beebee Field. Nacogdoches was rated number four state rank in 3-A. Through six innings I had the game in control. Top of the seventh we made two errors. Game tied. Coach Cummings pulled me with two outs to go. Nacogdoches scored and went ahead 4-2. We failed to score in the bottom of the seventh inning. After my senior year at CHS in 1961 I played for Navarro College. May of 1963 we were the Texas Junior College Champions, Blinn Junior College came in as runner up. We were going to nationals. Coach Paul Burch at our first practice gave us some sad news. One of our team mates failed to qualify in the fall of 1962. We had to forfeit all of our conference games. Blinn became the Texas Junior College Champions. — Jim Basham
