Want a 308. Looking at the Springfield version. Should I just spend and build up or build up from scratch?

Im assuming AR10? If so, know that parts don’t always interchange like they do with the AR15. It also seems like parts are generally more expensive than 15 parts.

If the Springfield has what you want, I’d probably just buy it and slap a good trigger in it.

The secret to a long life is to try not to shorten it.

I tend to gravitate to building. I want my rifle a certain way and it doesn't make sense to me to buy one just to strip it down and replace it part by part. Generally cheaper to build than to buy if you want something other than a stock rifle. The higher end rifles that come with all the upgrades are much more expensive than the sum of their parts and if you have to tools and know what you're doing (it isn't rocket surgery) one can be assembled in an hour or so.
