Google search put me on Lone Star gun safes, Austin, San Antonio, Houston. I wondered if anyone had experience with them, or could recommend a different one. A prehung door in a jam is all I need. No installation. I can go get it, or have it delivered. If it's delivered I can unload it.
GO!

Friend of mine had these guys build one for his gun room. I helped him hang it, which was a PITA because it went into a preexisting door frame. On a new build, it would have been a piece of cake. https://www.securityproducts1.com/
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Great thread. I'm curious how you plan to construct your safe room.

Lots of good help here, fellas. I appreciate it! Great thread. I'm curious how you plan to construct your safe room. ^^You will have to come see it in person.

If I'm going to travel 400 miles, I'm going to fing something way better to break into than your safe room. I was just curious if you are doing cinder block walls, and what type of cieling. If it is super secret info, no problem. Just looking into options myself.

Vault Pro USAThis is who we ordered from for the house we are building. What’s the cost of those? I’ll be installing a walk in 4x6 with 10 foot ceiling next year. Will double as a storm shelter.

It is all steel. I'm a welder, why in the world would I hire a Mason? What thickness of steel? Flux cored wire or other? My welding is limited to clean medical equipment with special materials.

Everything is 1/4" wall steel. I have NEVER used flux core wire with a MIG This will be arc welded together, outdoors, in the wind. Therefore, arc welded with E-6010, followed by E-7018.

Will it double as a tornado shelter? Of course Same here....concrete block walls filled with cement and rebar tied to the slab. Room has ventilation and electrical. They were working on it today, room is about 9'x9'... I'm looking at rebar sticking up through brick. Brick is not a structural component. You mention "concrete block walls filled with cement" and "rebar tied to slab." That isn't what is in the picture. From your past posts you seem to be pretty sharp about construction, etc. Surely there is something else coming along in there. If so it makes it makes no sense to be running rebar through brick. I don't think you are getting what is being sold to you. I've never seen what you have there. In that picture there is nothing with structural integrity whatsoever taking place. Years ago I witnessed an exact copy of what you have with cinder blocks. They were stacking up the blocks, pouring concrete down from the top, which was without a doubt bridging up. There was nothing structural about it. With brick there is less concrete filling the holes and bridging up, again irrelevant. Brick is decoration, not a structural component. Unless I'm missing something from that picture it is time to call timeout. And If I am right about what I see there I would call in one of our THF welders to build a room. If not that then find a concrete contractor that does ICF, Insulated Concrete Form, walls. I would take the anchored steel first. It will be stronger and with less weight on the slab. Bottom line here is that is just a false sense of security. It is in the code books. Brick and or cinder blocks are not a "structural component." It should be easy to look up. You are in the city. Ask your contractor if he wants the code inspector to look at it.
