Spending time with my kids in invaluable. I have typically had both of them with me but sister decided to sit out for a bit and let brother get his deer down. Sitting with me and my son was a great experience! I learned all kinds of things and learned that there are alot of questions that I have no clue what the answers are He never got tired of going to the stand and the only time he complained was when I had to tell him "no" over and over on deer he couldn't shoot. He would finally just sit back in his chair and say "why don't you just tell me when one comes out that I CAN shoot" Saturday afternoon was the day. I had a large crab claw buck coming to one of my stands on occasion and we had been hunting for him for a few weeks but hadn't been able to connect. I explained that this was probably his last hunt for a few weeks and if he wanted a deer, he might want to just pick good doe and shoot it but I would leave that up to him. He decided we would wait for the crab clawed buck and if all the doe got ran off by the other bucks, then that would be ok, we would just have to come back and try again another weekend. But if crab claw didn't come out and a doe was still there as it got later, we were taking a doe. We had a really good hunt and some new bucks showed up that I haven't seen in the area. It was getting late and Tank decided that it was time to take a doe. He had one picked out but the bucks really liked her so she wasn't giving him much time. After following her around the clearing a couple of times, I finally had him set the gun down and take a break. As soon as he did, his buck walked out. It wasn't the crab clawed buck we were after but it was a crab claw. I asked him if he wanted that one, the doe or wait on his crab claw...you can guess what he decided So, the rodeo started...the deer ran off as I expected it would but I felt like he made a good hit. It was all high fives and he was fired up and ready to get out of the stand right then and go find him. I told him we were going to give it a bit and texted a few of the guys to let them know. Bobo responded immediately that he was headed our way. After the shot, all the deer that had been there showed back up, except him so that was a good sign. We got down and found no blood but I went down the trail he was facing a little ways and couldn't find any sign. Circled back, met with Bobo and we each picked a path and went searching. Three times we circled back. We were all getting a little deflated but Tank stayed adamant that he made a good shot. I was about to call for reinforcements and decided to check on more time around the feeder. I found some blood splatter on the back of the feeder leg that I had missed and that gave me a little more hope. I went out and tracked south of where we had been grid searching and found the blood and his buck was piled up not 40 yards from where he had shot it. He still hadn't seen it but I told him I had found his deer. Told him we had to wait on Bobo to get back so I could check to make sure the deer was dead and then he could go get it. Now, all Tank can think about it going back out getting another one! Nothing more exciting than feeding off a kids excitement. Proud of him for sure

Great job on the first buck. Made his day, and I bet he is still smiling today. I can imagine the school yard story he has to tell! Great to see the family outdoors and thanks for sharing the memories made.
