This video shows how you don't want to shoot a shotgun. My buddy on the right has hunted with me for at least 20 years and makes 4 or 5 hunts a season. While watching some of the video captured over the weekend I noticed how poorly he gets the butt of the gun to the shoulder. When he shoots the gun moves a lot thus the reason he doesn't hit his targets often. You can hunt with a guy all of that time and not notice those things but the video doesn't lie. To make matters worse I only had one shell in my gun for the shot. Two bad things happened and with so few shots these day we have to make them count.

I watched the video before I read the commentary. I thought this was going to be about decoying birds.

so how far out were them birds on that last shot... I'm glad someone said it. Throwing up that hail Mary, on all shots it looked like. I know video can be deceiving, but if your first shots are straight up, they ain't close.

The pond we are in is a huge pond and duck hunting in that scenario is a lot different than hunting a small pond. The big water hunting is a lot more pass shooting, on occasion ducks will decoy but majority of the time they come close for a look. When they get in rage time to shoot at them. Back in the day the gadwall came in bunches to that set up as they prefer the big open water ponds, that is why my blind is in the middle of the pond and not on the shore.
Small pond hunting is totally different as ducks commit to a pond and come in for real close shots. We prefer the 3 man blind with more pass shooting action just depends on the ponds available on the lease you have.
The cameras I use are GoPro's and the distance perception on those is not good. They are fantastic for the close up stuff with a wide range and very clean. I mount them and don't hold them. I hope the shots are in the screen but most times not. Seems like we are sky busting but reality is the ducks are not that far away. By now I know the capabilities of a 12 gauge shotgun.
Happy Hunting!

Happy Hunting! I will vouch for Go-Pro's distance perception being off. The first shot those ducks were maybe 10 yards away. If your gonna shoot at them once mine as well slap that trigger a couple more times. Also a duck flying directly overhead is one of the easiest kill shots. Well easy when you shoulder your gun

Well easy when you shoulder your gun I know it's an easy kill shot, but when your first shot at them is directly overhead, that usually means they are a ways out. Go pro has a great wide angle view for sure.

Yeah your probably right. Too bad they didn't bring the farm ducks, they would've dropped right in.

Go pro or not, when you shoot and then reload and then shoot again literally 5 seconds after (count it out) you ain't hitting that bird... at best your going to cripple and never find it?
