I hunt in Coleman and the deer are few and far between. I have a few regulars but wow it is a slow year. Even back in august we normally have several 4+ year old bucks munching on some corn but this whole year has been different . The rut was a bit late this year and now it is just dead . What's going on out there in your area?

Haven’t seen a deer yet. Very frustrating. It’s like they all went elsewhere.

I think we have more deer this year. Seems there are more young bucks and more doe.

To y'all not seeing as many, Do have oaks nearby or on your property? Are you assessing numbers based on what is coming to corn?

Lots of oaks and acorns this year but I have a tower stand and usually see a considerable amount of movement back between the trees and brush lines. Just really slow this year. I got a deer last weekend so I am happy but.just not seeing the norm. I have been on this place for 15 years.

Lots of does and young bucks coming to feeders but we feed year round with limited hunting pressure. Seems like more than normal here and a bumper crop of fawns this year. We had good start of season with lots of grass and foliage that maintained until midsummer when it got dry. Do you have oaks on your property? Are you assessing numbers based on what is coming to corn?
There are pecan, walnut and oak trees here and the big bucks and pigs seem to be hitting those sources over corn here too.

When I checked my place last week, I had only a few deer on camera and about 50 lbs of corn on the ground under each feeder. I expect my own personal corn crop to start sprouting any time now.
I had more legal bucks on my my small place than I had ever seen before, and then the acorns cropped and my deer largely disappeared. I have some does and fawns still showing up at various hours, had a spike (neighbor shot him at my place), and still have one big buck showing up after hours, and that is it.

Our deer numbers are way up due to, I think, working hard at reducing hog and yote numbers.

DING-----I seem to think predators are a problem and need to be vastly reduced.
Bumper acorn crop isn't going to help "feeder" hunters

I hunt schleicher county. I wouldn’t say it’s slow, we always see deer, but the quality is few and far between. Still have a great time though. Good bucks is just “extra”...

More deer than in the last 5 years but this year the bucks are visiting the feeders mostly at odd times...middle of the night and middle of the day.

More deer on my place than ever before. Same here but you wouldn't know it right now. Acorns everywhere, rescue grass, abundance of Forbs. Been really slow.

We're seeing at least as many, probably more, than last year in Jack County. It's been a good year for seeing them so far. We're not seeing near the pigs that we did last year, but we're seeing quite a few pigs on camera at night.

Mills County / Deer numbers are good. Our deer are not hitting the feeders at all. corn is piling up.
only good thing is everyone else are sharing the same sentiments. they will be bigger next year.

numbers are not down they are just not coming to corn... put a few Temp blinds on open areas and see more deer there than anywhere... They are browsing in open areas.. We do mosaic mowing at our place mid Sept..Just get on a tractor and mow for 8 or so hours and try to do larger areas.. It allows fall growth close to the ground to green up... The deer love these areas...

If they have good natural food they just don't need to move as much. We have had years past with great range conditions and our neighbor planted crops that were still in the ground that the deer ate during season you would think we didn't have deer anymore lol.
I'd bet little has changed population wise, they are just fat happy and not our and about hunting for food all day.

I saw lots of deer at the feeder until the rut started. They are very few at the feeder but I can see them under the oaks eating acorns.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

I believe quite an increase in numbers in Dickens county. Usually see 2 or 3 does with single fawns This year at least 3 does have twins and another 3 to 4 have singles. Had about 7 shooters on camera over the last 2 months however as usual pressure has made them almost all disappear. Have seen only a couple does and fawns for over a week and I believe the shooting in my area has made a major change in movement.

Down big in my area South of Bowie. We used to see herds of deer but no longer. I’m blaming it on a severe 4 year drought, even that though that drought ended 4 or 5 years ago.
This year, due to massive acorn drop, has been a hunting wash out.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I'm also in Coleman county and numbers are not just down, but pretty much non-existent on our small place. Unfortunately we have a few oaks, but not enough to pull deer off of oaks on other properties, and with high fencing on 2 of our borders, it reduces the ability of deer to travel through. Just been a really tough, disappointing year. I'm taking time off at the end of this week into next week (5 days) that I will be sitting all day everyday. It seems this year that anything brown will be a trophy. Going to sit oaks where I can and see if I can find any kind of travel corridor at all.
