Building another 7-08 and have the rifle ready for load development. I can buy 700 162 Amax all the same lot # but that’s the end of the road on that lot #. I assume the ELDX is the logical replacement if I don’t get the Amax which I have confidence in. Any other bullet I should be looking at? This will primarily be a long range target gun but I will use it for the occasional whitetail or pig.

The gamechanger is actually on sale for .32/bullet vs .40 for the ELDX or .37 for ELDM. Scares me that they’re already that cheap, the SGK it’s made off of is .39. I’m going to order a box and find out.

Shot a few Gamechangers in the 6.5 Creedmoor yesterday they shot very well.

I've done lots of shooting, and lots of killing with a 162 A-Max out of a 7mm-08. So, if you've got a deal on them, go for it. All of the others mentioned are good choices as well.

The 162 eldm is the replacement to the amax. The ELDX is the controlled expansion hunting bullet. Both good choices.

140 Accubond and be done with it. I’m thinking the 140s would disappoint me at 1000 yards. Plus they’re .73/bullet for the 160g accubond, a bit high for 99% of them being used on paper and steel.

I was referring to 99% of probable hunting situations, not steel, rocks, etc. I thought that would be quite obvious.

I wouldn't be too worried about the performance of the 162 grain ELD-X bullets on game. I shot two pigs and a doe in GA last week with them. One of the pigs was a bruiser 273 lb boar that I shot at 232 yards (lasered). Muzzle velocity is 2730 fps. Pic of the boar. Pic of the entrance wound. Pic of the exit. He went about 40 yards and piled up in the thick stuff. Found blood about 8 yards in and followed it right to him.

I've killed a lot of critters with 162 amax and eld m. They work great as a do all bullet.

Those along with nosler 120's will make it to 1k no problem but if the wind is blowing they are very disappointing. That being said a 120 running fast is a great do all critter killer inside 400 or so.

Thanks Jason, I was going to do that last night but just didn’t have the energy.

When I had my 708 built I was eyeballing the 175 eldx. I went with 162 to eliminate any mag feeding issues that could arise. Aside from better BC, what can the 175 do that the 162 can't in 708?

Then again Redchevy is getting some good velocity with the 26” barrel.

Probably nothing. I wanted the big bullet. If I couldn't make the 175 work I would have cut it back to the 162's, but these seem to stabilize and shoot just fine in my 1;8.5 twist barrel. My load im shooting is 2605 fps and is fast enough for me, although I never did see a pressure sign of any kind, not even a flat primer. Running Rem LR primers in lapua brass seated as long as my savage box mag will allow, 2.955 and I haven't had any trouble feeding yet. I was going to load up a few more charges and push the upper end till I found too far, but decided I was happy with what I had and may not find another node above it. I may push a little further at some point for sh!+s and grins, but at the moment im happy to have a good shooting load and hunting and shooting it. Hope to tag a deer this weekend, it already did fine on a hog.
