For all you daddies of little boys who are enamored with electronics, computers, and phones... there is hope to enjoy the outdoors with your kids.

Took my little boy out last weekend and wanted to do some shooting with him after we finished up some work. Practically had to pry the phone from his hands. At first he was upset, then he started coming around, then he was laughing and smiling. On the way home he asked about hunting and I discussed he needed to practice more because in a few years he would be old enough to hunt... and last nigh he sat down and watched a hunting show and started paying attention to where your suppose to shoot!

I can only hope and pray that this continues and I get to enjoy a life of hunting with my little boy like I did with my old man!

Great job Dad! He will continue and you will continue to be his teacher/mentor. He will want to be just like you... hunt, fish, cook!

...just make sure you call him by name every once in a while. I thought my name was "get-the-gate" until I went to public school!! hammer

Good job of parenting, RC. Having a passion for the outdoors is a priceless gift and sometimes you have to use tough love to open their eyes.

i took my 6yo boy to the gun range for the first time this past weekend to shoot my 5.56. We have shot BB guns in the back yard for the past few years and we have talked about shooting big guns since the start of deer season. At first he was very nervous due to the noise. I didn't push him into shooting, but after watching me shoot 4-5 times he wanted to try "just one time". After the first shot "that wasn't so bad", then after about 10-12 more he didn't want to leave. He has already asked me when we can go back... huge success, priceless memory!! Trying to plan a hog weekend soon.

Good for you. It's not healthy for kids to be buried in a phone, computer or tablet. These things stifle creativity when all the thinking is done for them. A lot of kids these days can't even carry on a conversation because they never interact with others.
My two boys were exposed to hunting fishing and the outdoors early in life. One likes it a lot and the other one is ok with it.
Too much computer time isn't a good thing.
My 2 cents worth.

I feel for you guys as I raised 3 wonderful daughters. Tried but not hunters. Shooters with Concealed Carry all 3. They gave me 5 grandsons 4 are hunting buddies but they have phones as appendages My dad started me at 10 and I was addicted to the outdoors from the first shot. God I miss that man more so during hunting season

My girls have grown up to be responsible young ladies that respect the law and others......if I could change just one thing raising them, I would never give them a cell phone until they started driving.........

First great job dad, boy is on the right track because of your influenceup

I was very fortunate that my son always wanted to go with me to the woods at a very early age, he loved hunting and fishing until Jr. High when cute two legged doe became more interesting.
He also liked to play games on his phone in the blind which got on my nerves some but I figured better out here than at home doing nothing.
He partially came back around in High School. laugh
My daughter loves the outdoor but was never really into hunting except one year and thats okay.

Make it fun for him while he is out there and you will not lose him to the electronic monsters.
