I am taking my son out for his first official (He is allowed to shoot) hunt and noticed this piece was broken off the ole tikka. I think this is just cosmetic but wanted to check before We head west. First pic is the one with missing piece. 2nd is my other tikka. This piece is plastic. Is it safe? Thoughts?

Just the bolt shroud. It is there to keep the cocking piece area clean. The rifle will still function fine, just make sure and clean any debris away from that area every evening.

I had the one on my 7mag break while out hunting. I replaced it with an aluminum piece. No more problems. Rifle still worked fine, just like JG said, just there to keep debris from interfering.
