I posted this on the TFF OT because the way my oldest was holding the 1911. Went out around 10pm under a full moon. "Spotted" 10 or so around the first tank. Fairfield has pigs for sure. Shot one in the rear and the rest got sprayed with the other 29rds but nothing dropped. 70rds out I wanna say. I should have brought the 30.06. Aint much of a hunter.

Try again. Makey plenty of pan sausage! I took two inexperienced non hunters out for a hog shoot. We quietly made it out to a old tank where they had been rooting. Both these guys had AK type rifles. I had the light. We got up to berm. In low tones, "OK, chamber a round." The each pulled back the bolt carriers and let em slam making so much noise the pigs stampeded out of the muddy tank. We got on the berm, shinned the light and all these guys could do was look with astonishmnet and say, "Look at all the f ** ing pigs!" They never fired a shot. Ah, city boys! (sorta) They didnt fire a shot.

I've shot many hogs with an AK or SKS. If its not placed in the neck or head, they will run off and die. I'm sure you hit some of them. The only conclusion that I've come to is the ammo in this caliber. Most of the usual stuff like Wolf, Barnaul,(Silver/Brown Bear), Monarch, etc. will shoot through without expansion. Even if its hollowpoint. Without expansion you will most likely not put them down unless with a well placed shot to the neck, head, or spine. The best ammo in this caliber to use for hunting is Corbon DPX Hunter, but its pricy. For the price you also get the best accuracy along with great expansion in 7.62x39 caliber rifles. There are cheaper alternatives such as the Federal Shok softpoint, or Wolf 154gr. softpoint.
