"I grew up on a 22-250 with my grandfathers handloads with some 63gr. Sierra SP and they were deadly on deer. I bought my wife a 22-250 for her first rifle, and she loves it even though she doesn't hunt much due to our kiddos ages right now."

Bing, bing, bing! We have found factory ammo nails them just fine. Put a fixed 6 Leupold scope on it and target acquisition will be easy.

When my daughter was 10 she could shoot better than most grownups. I got her shooting a pre-64 model 70 .243 featherweight with no problem. She's 20 and still a tiny thing that shoots like a sniper. grin

And this is why suppressors should be removed from the NFA! In almost every case of "recoil fear" with kids, it actually "muzzle blast fear". That is a tremendous amount of noise combined with, in the cases of most muzzle brakes, a physical air pressure change and kids equate that to recoil.

Now, on to the question asked, I agree with the AR suggestions. They are heavy, but she shouldn't have to carry it that much. Gas guns soak up recoil as well. My only suggestion would be to either get one with a target crown, or go with a linear comp to push the muzzle blast away, instead of out to the sides. As I said above, most kids equate muzzle blast to recoil, so reduce it as much as you can.

Started 3 grandkids hunting with a Rem 222. They all took deer with it and never lost any.

7mm08 in a Remington Model 7 is a good choice

Browning X-Bolt Micro Midas, SHORT STOCK, without it caliber makes no difference. Adult rifles will be WAY to long in the stock.

Get her a youth model, My daughter shoots 7mm-08 with Hornady Custom Lite ammo. Great combo

When my dd's got that age, we bought a Ruger 22-250 and put a Leupold Fixed 6 on it. They were deadly with it and we retrieved everything. Acquisition of target was easy. My youngest hit a gobbler in the neck at 70 yards and, yes, she was aiming for its neck. That there roll over safety made me feel secure. I still use that gun every season. The does, coyotes and hogs really don't like it. Culls get shot behind the ear. Can't wait for the grandsons to get bigger.
