So I'm about to be getting a bolt gun and I'm pretty excited. Wanting something I can shoot a fair distance and maybe even do one of the THF rifle matches with. Also looking for something my son can shoot to take a deer with that doesn't kick him all over the place. I think I've got the gun nailed down with a Rem 700 5r Gen2 with a fluted/threaded barrel in 6.5CM. (I noticed Midway has them on sale for $799 and it appears to be a good savings).
I don't have a lot of experience with bolt actions but know the standard Rem trigger leaves something to be desired. I've had one and had it worked on, but it still wasn't the best. What aftermarket trigger would you go with and why? I'm thinking something in the 3lb area so it doesn't go off early if my son is wearing gloves.
Thanks for your help!

Timney will likely be your top vote getter. Works well, easy to adjust and not real expensive. I've used several others and all have worked, but when I think about replacing a factory trigger, Timney is the first thing that comes to mind.

Trigger Tech "Primary"
I used to install Timney's in Rem 700, now I like the Trigger Tech better.

I run jewel and prefer them. Have a trigger tech and it's nice just feels a bit different than I prefer but it's a solid trigger.

Not sure you will find a bad aftermarket trigger based on all the models I've seen recommended here.
I would suggest watching YouTube videos of how to install different models and pick the one that looks like it will be an easy install and matches the gun's workings more mechanically.

ive always liked jewell triggers but I bought a rifle like your looking at put a fast firing pin in it, and bought a Giselle (sp) two stage trigger in it wow I really like it, you take up a little slack, good with gloves, and then it breaks around a pound and a half for a total weight of around 3 lbs. I was surprised how well I liked it and have since bought another, quality is similar to the jewell

Thanks for the feedback! I think I’m gonna go with the Trigger Tech and I will be sure and let you know how I like it. Congrats on the new rifle and for getting your kid involved!
Thanks Judd! He will be 12 in February and to say he is pumped is an understatement! I’ve taken him deer hunting the last 2 years during the late youth season, but the deer did not want cooperate. We were trying to help the land owner out with does, but all we saw were bucks. I’m hoping this will be the year for him!

Not sure if you bought it yet but you might want to look at Bergara rifles. They are similar in price, use a 700 action and you won't need a trigger.

Midway has trigger tech primary as low as $115 right now I saw that, thanks! It’s also the same place they have the gun on sale. I have both in my shopping cart and will probably purchase tomorrow. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020187973/

I run jewel and prefer them. Have a trigger tech and it's nice just feels a bit different than I prefer but it's a solid trigger. Can't comment on the TT but love my jewel set at 2 lbs.

Really hard to beat the Trigger Tech-- I was a long time Timney fan... but I've put in 3 trigger techs and the overall fit and finish of the trigger is better and the CLKR adjustment is spot on and stupid easy.
