Found this on the side of the road east of Big Spring.

I've spoken to US Border Patrol agents over the years, and they've told me they have seen them as far west as El Paso County there along the river. I asked them if they were sure they weren't the other big rodents, but they were adamant they were beavers.

I've seen Nutria out that way but not beavers.

There was a beaver lodge in Lake Alan Henry 10 years or so ago. That's the farthest west I've personally seen one in Texas.

Considering where you found him...he might have been hitchhiking from somewhere East of there.

I saw one on Lake LBJ up Sandy Creek last year. I couldn't believe that one either. He climbed up on a rock so we got a good look at his flat tale.

Beavers inhabit the Devils River in Val Verde county & have for many years. A couple of years back a family of them cut down several Sycamore trees on the side of Hwy 163. Pretty obvious if you look at the trees as to what fell them

That doesn't surprise, I believe there's been sightings the entire length of the Rio Grande, but we're a long ways from any moving water. Shouldn't really surprise me many of the old Texas books mention beavers over a wide area of Texas. Beaver mandibles have been found at old Indian sites along the Pecos, and Devils River, some in straw and leather pouches. They seemed to find allot of Jack Rabbit mandibles also and I haven't figured out their purpose but I have a suspicion it's for working wood, Them teeth are sharp!

We had beaver on lake Coleman up the Jim Ned river ( creek ) 40 years ago.

In the early eighties I remember seeing bever dams in Falcon lake.

As the "T" shirt says at BUCEE'S...Not you ordinary beaver...USBP Agent from the El Paso Sector (retired)...there are beaver in the Rio Grande from the Fort Quitman area East of El Paso all the way North to Elephant Butte...seen them and their leavings...seem to really like 2-3" Alamo (Cottonwood) trees...the Bosque Del Apache has a healthy population

When I had property in Winters, we had some beavers there.

We have them in Erath and near our house in Collin county. They're everywhere.

They have been spotted several times at some of the lakes in Lubbock and Buffalo Springs Lake just right out side of town. Starting to show up more regularly on some of the local fishing pages. Never would have thought they would be around here.

My guess is, there are many beavers to be seen in West Texas.

We have them around Menard Country along the San Saba and other spring fed creeks. But we are actually Central Texas and upper Hill Country.

When I was a Deputy out at Van Horn back in the 80's I had seen beaver along the Rio Grande. A good friend was a govt trapper and had to occasionally go in between Ft Hancock and El Paso to trap beaver that would get in irrigation canals. Saw one that Todd trapped and it was a monster. They are probably all over the Colorado River system. Seen them in Lake Coleman and Oak Creek while bass fishing

Beavers are abundant on the Rio Grande below Falcon Dam. Petty big nutrias too. The beavers burrow into the riverbanks instead of making their customary lodges down on the river. For awhile there were a ton of them below Los Ebanos (where the ferry is) taking down trees that there was no way on the face of the earth they were going to get back to the river. But, they stripped the small limbs from them.

When they slap the water with their tails it almost sounds like someone dropping a jon boat in the water. Don't know how many times I thought a load was coming across and it was just beavers doing their thing.

The Playa lakes of west Texas had plentiful Beaver throughout most the 19th century. "Free Trappers" were abundant. Spanish Texas with fertile rivers and Playa's, supplied a steady flow of Otter and Beaver pelts to the markets back east.

When we fished Apisko Lake in Ontario we saw a ton of beaver and some pretty big dams and lodges, allot of otters there also.
