My long time trustworthy Lyman 1200 electronic powder thrower apparently just died. Time for new electronics. These days, what is the powder thrower of choice? RCBS, Lyman, or Hornady?

RCBS has a new one out that is advertised to be accurate withing .04 grns. Don't know anyone that has tried one yet. I use the RCBS Chargemaster with no complaints.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

Dang I was curious how much the new RCBS was. I think id just as soon make better ammo on my beam scale than spend that much. Im sure that isn't an option for some, but I have found going back to my old beam scale somehow relaxing and rewarding.

How does that compare to the other somewhat comparably priced one made by an individual, whose name escapes me at the moment? Not talking about Prometheus. BTDT and regretted it.

It's by far the best available....notice I said best and not cheapest. The only thing that compares in my opinion is the Prometheus and it's 3x the cost for the lease.

I finished out the loading this morning using my PACT electronic scale, my Lyman 55, and a powder trickler. Took forever.
The semi-dead Lyman 1200 weighs correctly, but will not throw anywhere near the inputted amount. So...I ordered the RCBS 1500 Chargemaster Combo unit.
If I had not already been convinced of the need for an automatic thrower/trickler, I’m convinced now. The need for speed...

If I had not already been convinced of the need for an automatic thrower/trickler, I’m convinced now. The need for speed... If you do not have them get or make a set of inserts for your chargemaster, they do help a lot with the overthrows and I think consistency. There is a thread in the links sticky above that has a programming hack that can improve the speed of the Chargemaster.

It's by far the best available....notice I said best and not cheapest. The only thing that compares in my opinion is the Prometheus and it's 3x the cost for the lease. That’s the one Judd, thank you. I had a Gen 2 Prometheus for a short while and ended up sending it back. When it ran correctly it was great, but I spent more time fooling whenever I changed powders than the headache was worth. Now I use the Chargemaster to throw 0.2 below and finish with an Omega trickler on a Redding beam. The combo is quick most of the time and turns out good ammo at a relatively modest cost. The Chargemaster drifts up to 0.3 grain over a session, so I will not use it as a stand alone. The autotrickler looks great. Has anyone tried the new $900 Chargemaster? What is the difference compared to the current/old model?
