It's one of those calibers that just doesn't carry the sex appeal of others, but the .25 caliber bullet has a long history of being one of the flattest and best performing bullets you can sling at a deer. Yes, sometimes you just have to wade through the marketing hype and fad hysteria to uncover what the real numbers have to say. Link

Now you picked a fight. The only thing wrong with a 25-06 is it's not a 257 Roberts.

Holy cow, talk about TLDR on that article. With most articles you can just jump to the summary at the end.

In the end most any chambering will do what the majority of hunters need or want it to do. Sure the super high bc bullets shine at long range, but when you consider how many game animals are take at a distance where that BC makes a difference I think it will be insignificant. Of course that is just the big picture there are many who demand that level of performance, but I don't think they often realize how miniscule a part of the hunting public they make up.

Unfortunately, there will always be those who will pay for anything and everything other than range fees if they believe it will make them a better shooter.

25-06 has been my favorite round since college and was my go-to rifle for deer. I still have that old Rem 700. Blackjack are making high BC .25 caliber bullets in the 130 gr range for the 25 Creedmoor. I predict Judd (aka Captain Creedmoor) will build a 25 Creed! 25 Creedmoor

I give the writer credit where credit is due. In one article he covered more of the cartridges I tried, and then set aside, than anyone else I've read!

Chad ‘s meme is appropriate as back before we had Rangefinder’s and folks never gave a thought about scopes that could be dialed and point blank range was an important factor the 25-06 was one of the premier LR deer rifle calibers. Running a 87-100 gr bullets at 3200+ fps you could sight-in at 275 yds and with no hold over take a deer to 350 or so.

I agree they are great on WTs but not so much on big thick tough hide hogs, especially if you want DRT.

I think it is and always has been a badazz caliber, since was a teenager. And esp. when loaded with light bullets for varmints. Had a Ruger 25-06 for a decent while, quite accurate. I can only wonder if "HunterTed" still has it. Have seen another persons 25-06 that was very accurate to 200 yards +. Rock on, 25-06
Forum says "Veteran Tracker". I could not track a garbage truck into a fireworks factory.

I agree they are great on WTs but not so much on big thick tough hide hogs, especially if you want DRT. Totally depends on where you put the bullet. I get DRT hogs all the time with my 257 Roberts. I always put the bullet forward on a line between the shoulder and ear and it drops them in their tracks. I agree they will go a ways if you put the bullet in the shoulder or behind it but that isn't specific to 25 calibers in my experience.

"If you have a 25-06, celebrate it. If you don’t, start shopping. The 25-06 Remington is one of the mildest recoiling, flattest shooting, wind-defying, overlooked medium hunting cartridges in our arsenal."

We killed a lot of deer growing up with one Back before range finders, ballistic calculators, tactical turrets,etc.. My dad would hand me a rifle that was dialed in he had glass bedded, trigger job, hand loaded ammo, sighted in 3” high at 100 He would load light bullets for deer and heavies for Elk in Colorado Someone would tell him “you can’t hunt Elk with a 25-06”. His response “watch me”
Didn’t think twice about deer, hogs or coyotes out to about 300 yards hunting senderos in south Texas
