It seems no matter how long you live, you always seem to learn something new during each Opening Weekend.
Five things I learned this past weekend...
1. McDonald's makes great hot chocolate that tastes great from your thermos.
2. At 60, I can't climb into and out of a ladder stand or a tripod near as easily as I could 20 years ago.
3. If you may find you put up your ground blind just a few feet from where hogs like to bed.
4. Rechargeable cap lights from Academy work great
5. The sounds of buzzards flapping their wings as they feed on a nearby dead cow carcass on a neighbor's property can rub on your ears.

Don't leave the toilet paper in the truck.

Don't leave the toilet paper in the truck. That's why you wear socks.

Don’t hunt with BTHP match ammo
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

That if you start hunting earlier then missing opening day doesent bother you

It's hard to see deer from behind closed eyelids.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

That if you start hunting earlier then missing opening day doesent bother you This Some call it an unfair advantage Since 2012 My hunting season has started anywhere from Mid August- Early September, with my elk hunts taking place in Mid October. This year we started the last few day of July. Kinda metes it out better so I’m not having a conniption fit waiting on opening day of deer season

I used to think tower blinds with handrails on the stairs were silly, but now that I’m older, I think they’re a necessity.

Things I learned opening day.
I remembered why I gave up on deer leases and hunted in Africa, Alaska and western states at one time. I may go back to that. Where I am hunting this year, more hunters than deer.
On the good side I get to watch my food plots grow !!!
Thanks, Billy

Tinks 69 sprayed to the eyes hurts It don't taste good either . I sprayed some while I had my thick gloves on, and a few minutes later I needed my gloves off, so I bit the ends of the fingers to help pull them off, and got to my. Index finger,, YUCK.

When you say hurry to a 14 year old, they move slower.

After 35 years of hunting, you can still get way to excited and have your scope pop you in the eye from an improper mount.
