Anyone getting ready for Mule Deer season in the Panhandle? Taking my brother in law and his 13 year old son up for their first hunt opening weekend. Had cows on our place last year for the first time in ages and it seemed to keep the deer away. Hoping they got used to them being there after a year. Also going to be looking for Auodad.
My brother and I will be out there. Hunting the dunes of the South Plains. Hoping for some cold weather as we haven't had much the last few years during the season! Good luck to ya'll!
Thank, realizing not a lot of people hunt the panhandle for Mule deer. I guess the season is so limited and the land is majority private?
Yes there are not a lot of opportunities to hunt mule deer in Texas, especially healthy herds with balanced ratios and mature bucks.......so be thankful because there are many who would like the chance...
Thanks, hoping the cold weather gets them moving this year. I’m adding three cellular cameras to my property this year. Here’s a buck I took last year.

There are new restrictions for buck harvest in certain counties so make sure to check for your county.
We've been hunting the same place N of Canadian for 20 years now. They muley rut will be in full swing up there by mid November. I've never found a muley buck up there big enough (on our property) to shoot one yet, but I always try.
Yes I think the restrictions states a 20-22in minimum. Essential outer beams outside the ears at a resting position. Hoping it helps the population and forces some hunters to make more mature kills
I will be hunting east of Canyon. A teacher at the school I teach at told me they have a particular mulie on their spread that has a "messed up" rack on one side that her husband wants taken out but doesn't want to use his tag. I only hunt meat so I told her I would take the buck. This will be the first mulie buck I have shot in years but I have shot some does back home in the last few years. I grew up shooting them in CO and have tagged about 30 of them over the years but have been mainly popping whitetails in the last decade or so.
This will be in Randall County to the east of the CWD area and has no restrictions as far as antler size. I am looking forward to it.

My lease in Hall county used to be about 90 percent muleys 20 years ago. Now its about 95 percent whitetail. I did see a herd of muleys on some cotton south of Memphis this past weekend. I also drive through Buffalo lake south of Umbarger quite a bit. It seems like the Mule deer population on the refuge has exploded!
