All the videos that I've seen show a diesel locomotive about three cars back from the steam engine. While the steam engine is running, it's not blowing as much smoke and steam as others I have seen in person. I have to wonder if the diesel is actually pulling most of the load. Or maybe it's just there as a backup.

Every steam locomotive that I've watched that was pulling a load produced a lot of exhaust steam from the drive pistons near the front of the wheels.

It came through Comstock on Sunday. He started pouring the coal to it when he saw us waiting on the hill.😁

There is an engine behind it. That probably saves some wear and tear. It was originally a coal fired steam locomotive that was converted to fuel oil.

I'm aware of that but I still won't be able to see it.

My favorite YouTube video that shows it passing by.

Of course I could be wrong, but I suspect the chance to blow the whistle on a steam locomotive is on someone's bucket list.

If I still had kids at home, I would definitely consider taking them out of school to see it pass through our area.

Didn’t the town of West, Texas stage a big train crash and sell tickets back in the day?

I just googled it. Turns out they did not sell tickets but had some 40,000 people there to watch two trains crash head on. Was a bigger crash than they thought would happen and 2 people died.

I would to smell the burning coal, hear the whistle blow, and feel the ground shake as it passed by one more time.

Wonder how many furloughed UP employees it took for this little publicity stunt?
