Ridiculous isn't it! Local gas station used to have it as one of their pumps, and cheap.
NOW its like the dang stuff comes in a crystal bottle or something!

How does in come. Do you still bring your own container, or does it came in a container?

We did too but it really isn't the same thing.

Quote
coal oil and kerosene oil are distinctly different substances, although they can both be used in similar ways as a fuel source.

In simple terms, the main difference between coal oil and kerosene oil is in their origins; coal oil is extracted from a type of soft, oily coal called cannel coal (or sometimes candle coal). Cannel coal is a specific type of soft coal that contains bitumen, a form of petroleum. It is from this substance that the coal oil is refined.

Kerosene oil, on the other hand, is refined directly from liquid petroleum (crude oil).

It’s true that coal oil and kerosene have different origins, but I wonder if they are the same (or close) when it comes to distillation curve and API gravity. I guess I should look it up.

If I was going to buy some kerosene, I’d go to a Distributor and have them fill a 55 gallon drum. In bulk it should cost somewhere around the price of Diesel. I sure would avoid buying it in small overpriced cans. Cut out the middleman.

I bought it at the pump at Gene Harris in Burleson yesterday and it was 4.99 a gallon mad

No we didn’t, white gas was unleaded gasoline. We used that in Coleman lanterns. Kerosene was called Coal Oil.

I remember some gas stations back in the early to mid 6o’s before unleaded at the normal pumps was mandated. Seems like we used the white gas in some small outboards, Coleman stoves and lanterns. Does that sound right at all?

The only "white gas" sign I can remember was in front of a place that sold minnows and fishing supplies.
