I'm looking into getting a full size 45 cal handgun. I was leaning towards a 1911 or maybe a Glock, but I am open somewhat. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd like to not spend more $550 or so. Thank you!

Glock would fit that budget well. Not much else will

Ruger makes a nice 1911. You should be able be able to find one used close to your price range.

Quick search found this one on GB

A Glock will fall until that price range. Not a purty gun, but goes bang when you pull the trigger.

Would either of these be good?

I'm a 1911 fan, but you can save a little money with a Glock.
There was a special running on them the other day, get two free gold teeth with the purchase of a Glock.

1911. My wife shot both my 1911s and fell in love with them. She just bought a Rock Island Armory 1911 for just under what you want to spend. It’s a very nice handgun and shoots great!

Either of those will make you a happy 1911 owner.

Sales flier this morning from Bass Pro showed to have a Bass Pro exclusive Kimber 1911 .45 acp for $599, best deal in town in my opinion.

I don't own a Glock, but there no questioning their utility and reliability.
Janie's advice would be mine also.

Of those two I would go with the Springfield all day long. Just a personal thing from a fan of older Remington products, but I just can't put my trust in the new stuff.
Even better IMO, if you could get the Ruger for that bid it would be a steal and I believe you would have a better overall gun. If I was in the market for a 1911 I would be all over that Ruger.
Unless you just can't live with the grip, you can't go wrong with a Glock. They're not pretty but they just work.

Gen 4 Glock 21

I have poured money into 1911s over the years to get them to run right, and they never have for me.

Just my YMMV .02,
LeonCarr

With a few years of experience with an FNP-45, I would recommend it without hesitation. The newer FNX models probably have some improvements, but I'm not really up on what they are.

To Carry? Bedside gun? or range gun? For bedside gun or range gun, I would choose the 1911. I like the feel, function, and trigger of a 1911. However, you will have a hard time finding a good one in your price range. The Ruger might fit the bill though. For a carry gun, I would choose a smaller weapon. I know many carry the 1911, and I carry it on rare occasion...usually at the ranch, but will usually opt for a smaller carry gun.
