Having had both on a T/C Encore pistol in .44 mag, I would go with the scope option. Some of you young bucks with good eyesight could probably make a dot work, but those days are far behind me.

have done a lot of handgun hunting with both setups.. I prefer a dot don't go cheap, a 44 mag can destroy them quickly

I’m about to try a dot. I couldn’t find that pig in my scope the other day. Like looking through a tiny little hole.

I’m about to try a dot. I couldn’t find that pig in my scope the other day. Like looking through a tiny little hole. Too much magnification. I have scopes on my rifles because my eyeballs are old. With my revolvers. the break point for me is about 50-75 yards to make a reasonable shot - note that I did not say a precision shot. Dot is the only answer for me for at shorter ranges. Again, I am not a precision shooter like so many people here are. Also, I shoot with both eyes open with both rifles and handguns, so I lean toward red dot for close-in work. (I was trained that way as a kid because my mentor was big on keeping track anything moving into your field of fire) Marc

Scope was set at 1.5. Pig was 30 yds out. Of course the thick woods didn’t help.
