If you are on the way : say to the deer lease and are stopped for a traffic violation ie speeding and have a loaded firearm concealed in your vehicle do you tell the officer as he walks up ? This would be if you have a LTC or not & would it include cased rifles or unloaded fire arms of any kind ?

ran across this article today that states:

The following states require you to disclose to law enforcement officers if you are armed whether you are asked or not: Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. If you are pulled over by a law enforcement officer in these states you must disclose that you are armed immediately and without being asked.(link)

If by chance I'm pulled over I always hand the officer my DL & LTC at the same time and declare there are guns in the vehicle, never had an issue.

I thought Texas changed that where you did not have to tell them. But, yes I do. I'f I'm in my truck, the LEO knows I'm LTC before he walks to the window anyway.

I've been on my way to a shooting match and been pulled over. He asks if we have any weapons, and we giggle and says "Yes, lots!" He was cool and we chit chatted about shooting and such, and I always give my business card out.

^^Exactly this.

Last stop was by a trooper three weeks ago. He handed them right back and didn't even ask if I was armed. The big Prlican rifle case on the flatbed answered that question for him before he ever made to my door.

Knock on wood, I haven’t been pulled over for quite some time. But to answer the question, yes. I would hand them my DL & LTC at the same time and let them know I have a firearm in the truck.

Even before I had my LTC I told them when I had guns in the truck. They are all legal and I have nothing to hide from them. Thankfully I haven't been pulled over since I got my LTC... knock on wood.

I have an LTC but don't always have a firearm in the vehicle. Can't remember the last time I was asked if I had a weapon in the vehicle.

I tell them I am a licensed to carry a concealed handgun, and hand them my CHL with my DL. I do not mention any other long guns that are in the truck (if applicable.) Never been an issue.

I simply hand both licenses over and dont say anything. Never had a problem until about 2yrs ago in Ferris or some town south of Dallas in I-45.

Handed my licenses over, LEO asked if I had a handgun with me. I responded yes and he asks me to take it out. So Im like okayyyyy. I pull it out and he tells me to hand it to him. Again, okayyyy. Then he walks back to his car with my handgun!?!?! Then comes back with my ticket, hands me my gun, and sends me off. It was truly bizarre and I had contemplated contacting whatever PD it was to figure out what that was all about. Life got in the way and I just forgot about it til now.

I always hand them drivers license and LTC license. I've had them ask do you have your guns with you? I reply "yes sir". One asked me what gun it was and I told him "Glock 29". He replied, "cool!"

Roll both windows down on whichever side they approach from, turn on interior lights if it’s dark, hand them DL, LTC and insurance. Keep hands on the wheel. Haven’t been pulled over in a long time.

^^^ I also do this. If it's dark out, I will turn on the interior lights and roll down the windows. I have been told "Thank you" for doing that on more than one occasion.

All of above, plus flashers on and keys out of ignition and up on dash visible. If I do have a weapon in the vehicle I ask "How would you like me to proceed?"

Haven't been stopped in several years, and got off with warnings several times when I did.

Probably Palmer. He was checking to see if your handgun was stolen.

For me, engine off, keys on dash, hazards on, foot off the brake, both hands on the wheel with both licenses in my hands. All four windows down and dome light on if it's at night. This goes a long way with the officer.

Same here. Then I just answer any questions asked of me and do as the officer says.

I light a cigarette, blow smoke in their face when they approach, and cuss them for stopping a law-abiding citizen while somebody is getting raped, robbed, or murdered as we speak. bolt

Actually I do most of the above and hand them my DL, LTC, and Insurance. Sometimes they ask if I have a gun with me, sometimes they don’t (I always have a pistol inside with a rifle in the toolbox). Haven’t had an issue in years.

When I was much younger I had two different ones ask to search my vehicle (both local cops). I declined consent. This made both stops into much longer affairs as they both tried to pressure me into letting them search my vehicle as they were then sure I had something to hide. I had nothing to hide, I just feel like for our rights to have meaning it’s good to exercise them sometimes. There’s no need for a LEO to go on a non-probable cause fishing expedition of my truck.

I admire the hell out of them and the risks they take approaching the vehicles they stop, but a few are anywhere from goobers to outright bad apples. Thankfully it’s a very few.

Lol no jail time. One of them actually threatened that - only then did I tell him I was a lawyer and explained that he had the gun and the badge and could sure do that, but that he and I would certainly be seeing each other again at a PC/Dismissal hearing and likely at a disciplinary hearing after that related to the complaint I would be filing.

He decided I could go then. Didn’t even give me a ticket for the expired sticker he stopped me for. I’m pretty sure he just forgot. smile

I got pulled over heading to a hunt at 3:30 one morning. He asked what my hurry was; I told him I was racing the sun to get in the deer blind. He grinned.

Asked for license and insurance. I had just tossed everything in the truck That morning and my wallet was buried under a mound of gear Somewhere in the cab. Before I went digging for it I told him where my pistols were. He had me get out and step into his Tahoe. Got to watch him run my license and visit. It was a really memorable experience and broke up the pre-dawn monotony of I-20.

He said, you’re good. Keep it legal. Sent me on my way. Still remember his name, and am grateful to that State Trooper. If I see him again, I’d invite him to hunt with us. Not because he let me go, but because he seemed like a genuine good guy to hang out with.

Don't go fishing around your vehicle looking for your wallet and insurance card while the officer is approaching your vehicle.

Wait until he/she comes to your window, and ask for permission to get your wallet out or to open your glove compartment when he/she asks for it.

This goes a long way.

Just my .02,

I would say out of thousands of stops I’ve probably had less than 5 tell me.

It is obvious the practices mentioned here and it is much appreciated. They are noticed even if they don’t say anything to you.

Add in getting plum off the road. We (Law Enforcement and Fire) spend way too much time dodging cars at 10 to 70 mph. As soon as warning lights come on, I hit my hazards and look for the next driveway or parking lot to pull into. Hazards off, turn signal on, windows down, both hands on the door where he can sew them. One hand is holding my wallet.
