Okay, here's a topic a bit more on the lighter side.
Had a good friend call and tell me today about the new boat he just bought, one that he's been looking at for several weeks now. I jokingly told him the timing was perfect because I've had my eyes on a new deer rifle and maybe now I could use his purchase to explain to the wife why she should let me buy a new rifle. After all, I'm sure my new rifle will cost a fraction of what he spent on a boat. Now granted, you married guys know you can always "pull rank" and just go ahead and buy a new firearm without the wife's input. But as they say, a happy wife is a happy life.
So what's the silliest or most ridiculous excuse you've ever given the wife for needing something new, and did it actually earn her approval?

I want a new play toy. And yes it worked.
How many ask their wife? How many do what they want even if she says no?
I was raised in a household where you didn't buy something that wasn't a necessity without consulting your spouse and I do the same.

I have brass and dies for it already. I buy all black guns and she can't tell the difference between the old ones and the new ones.

Before I got married, I admitted to my addiction. She was well aware that I am a chronic gun nut beforehand. Her Dad has the same affliction, so it really isn't an issue.

But it holds 15 rounds of 45 Long Colt, what a great hog gun! It's never been hog hunting since I bought it.

I have enough shootin’ irons that my wife has lost count. She hasn’t even noticed the last several that have shown up in the gun safe. I have bought her three boys several guns each in the last couple of years. That helps camouflage some of the other purchases.

I don't need a reason. My wife is addicted to the slots in the Oklahoma casinos. Rifles are much cheaper.

“Because I just bought a $1000 suppressor and don’t have a rifle with a threaded barrel to put it on!” Jokes on me though, she turned around a week later and used that as a reason to buy a new Louis Vuitton purse. Wife won that one.

Loading for that rifle will be economical that by not purchasing it I would be losing money.
Never have felt I needed to ask permission to buy a firearm. That is a genie I want to keep in the bottle.

Because I bought some dies for it at a garage sale! Did it work? She never noticed the new increase in the #s in gun case.

Don’t need a reason nor permission. My wife honestly could care less. However in the 2 more recent times I discussed it with her before purchasing a new firearm I unused the following two excuses:
1) I need a gun that can shoot long range. Outfitter said I have to be able to hit a target at 500 yds.
2) I don’t have a gun light enough to backpack in with. I have a weight limit on my gear & my current rifles are ALL too heavy.

I "needed" to get my daughters' a hunting rifle they can use. The older one was 1 1/2 and just had the second when I decided they needed one of their own. Of course they happen to choose the grendel i eventually built. Who knows why they were so adamant on me getting a Wilson receiver set but who am I to argue with a 1 1/2 year old. Of course the new boarn didn't have an opinion.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

“Because I wanted it”
I don’t find a “reason” to buy something. Not everything has a purpose beyond me liking it. If I like and want something, I buy it. But I do always discuss with my wife first.

I once told my wife I needed another deer rifle so each of the kids would have an equal number of them after I'm gone.
She didn't give any sign of being in agreement.

I make sure she’s a happy woman everyday. Has what she needs, has what she wants. As long as that’s accomplished I buy whatever the heck I want whenever I want to. If my priorities ever get out of balance I’ll have to re-evaluate.

Because I can. Don't need approval to buy any gun. I never buy junk or budget guns will never loose a nickel on any of them.
