Game camera. When I had chickens, coyotes were my biggest problem. They'd come in the yard even in the middle of the day. An owl got one that I know of.

I had 2 chickens and a 10x10 fenced off area for em.
#%@&$&@ Coons reached through the cage one night and killed em, left then laying there.
Coons are real buttholes
Never got an egg.

We just got some chickens. Bought one of those premade coops that supposed to hold 5-7 chickens, planned on putting 2 hens in there. Couple weeks later I now have 2 hens in the coop and 3 chicks in the house!

So I was thinking of fencing off an area of the yard for them to roam and/or building something else for the coop. The lady I bought the hens from had electrified "net" fencing. Any of ya'll use that? Does t keep critters away (other than flying ones)

Just found this thread bang

We had 8 acres (just sold) and bought a little more land down the road.

Anyway, the wife was hell bent on free range chickens

We initially bought I think 18, this was 2 years ago

And something would slowly but surely get them

I’d buy more, never see or hear anything.

Finally sat a trap and I caught raccoon after raccoon after raccoon

Anyway, that’s my lesson. We’re out of the chickens for now.

But we will for sure keep them pinned up next time and learned raccoons will plow thru chickens like know other

Chickenman, I’d get onto our kids about leaving the latch open at night

They’d swear they closed it (I had my doubts but I started believing them)

Raccoons are smarter that I thought.

They figured ours out. I never would have thought they would

I’ve saw several designs but I want to take 2” square tubing and wrap it with chicken wire

Idk build it about 20 foot long and 4x4

And I need to have a better latch actually goin into the coop

Anything simple, raccoons will figure it out. They did on me anyway

Chicks move to the coop in a week or three. Added some free windows for natural light. Not bad! My oldest hen walked in and said WTH?

I have a chicken that is pulling her feathers out all over herself. Going to dust the coop with DE and her. None of the other chickens are doing this. This started about 5 days ago.
Any help out there?

They are beautiful. Do your children name them?

How is the hen doing? I wouldn't know what to tell you about the hen. I know parots pull their feathers when they get stressed out.

Still losing feathers. She is active with the other ones, no eggs for several weeks. When she shakes herself the feathers fall off. Have dusted with diatematious powder.

I thought about you this afternoon Chickenman, I finally gave up on raising chickens after the Red-Tailed Hawks that nested above their coop stopped them from laying several times. I was out in the pasture today and had 3 of them circling my place. My neighbor lost several chickens last week due to them. The hawks brought them to my back yard to eat them so it is covered in feathers. Good luck with yours.

I have a large dog that doesn't like flying birds. She actually goes apeship. I think that's why we don't have a hawk issue but I could be wrong. The neighbors 2 houses down lost a few to hawks.

Are the eggs fertile? Ever incubate them?
