Can you tell me where this wire/pigtail plugs into? It has been dangling free and I can't for the life of me find anything it plugs into. It is under the hood on the drivers side near the fuse block and comes out of the wiring harness just under the PCM. It has two wires. One arrow show where the two wires come out of the harness and the other arrow shows the the male plug. The battery tray and battery is an add on 2nd battery. I may have accidentally unplugged that wire when I installed the tray several months ago.

My best guess, It doesn't.

It's long enough that it was dangling down on the exhaust manifold, so It goes somewhere. I rerouted it for the picture. I suppose could have been strapped to someplace for some accessory my suburban did not come with. I have never noticed it before and as far as I can tell everything is working as it should.

That blue retainer attached to it makes me think it's an unused accessory plug. If it was always supposed to be plugged in I doubt it would have the retainer.

That blue retainer in the picture is on a completely different set of wires a few inches under the wires in question. Sorry for the bad picture angle. That retainer is on the wires coming out of the PCM (or should have called it a VCM module) and going to the ABS control module next to it. There are only two wires going into the plug in question, no retainer, yellow and white I think.

If it’s still running don’t worry about it

Yea, if I can't figure it out, I'm just going to zip tie it to something and forget about it. But hoping someone with a late 90s truck might open their hood for me, look under the front corner of the Vehicle Control Module, and follow those two wires for me. There is a retainer attaching the wiring harness to the wheel well right were those two wires come out, so should be easy to find.

Post a picture of the end of the plug, please. It would help.

There is a GM engineer that makes these extra plugs just to keep people busy looking for the other end. Just like that extra nut and bolt in the bicycle parts bag, put there to drive people to drink.

NO! You have it all wrong, the dohicky plugs into the thingamajig. The thingamajig then enables the thingamabobber.

I don't have a late 90's chevy truck but do have a '94 and there is a plug like that, that has never been hooked to anything. By the looks of yours, it has been disconnected, or never connected, from something for a long time now.

Two wires are positive and negative so it's a power plug for something you likely don't have.

BTW, my '94 does not have a tach in it and I was thinking that is what that plug was for, as if it was just a standard wiring harness they used on all trucks. A long time ago I thought I knocked it loose but never could find anything it could connect to so I just ignored it.

I have had several GMs with a "wire" harness in that vicinity, almost every one where pre-wires for 12 v power to trailer/rv plug, like you'd need to run inside trailer lights.

On my 09 I had to add the needed accessory fuse and plug the loose pigtail into? (I'd have to look) , this was what I needed to use the inside lights for cargo trailer (12v)

02 and 04 where the same as well, so may see if that is a possibility. iirc, there is a matching plug inside that fuse box and you need to add the proper fuse into the board.

FYI, I already checked the power steering Pressure Switch and it does have it's connector plugged into it. It is an almost identical plug. Looking at a recent power steering leak is why I noticed the loose wire. The loose plug is covered in power steering fluid and deer lease road dust same as every thing else on that side of the engine.

I could be wrong, but it looks VERY similar to the plug for the IAT sensor which will be located on the plastic intake system between the air filter and MAF sensor. If the IAT sensor isn't plugged in, the vehicle will still run.

If you can provide me the year, make, and model then I can provide you with the location of the sensor.

If it's anywhere near a headlamp it could be the auto-leveler plug.

There is a temp sensor behind the power steering pump

Doubt it is for a sensor since there is only +/- wires on the harness, With the red and white I am guessing Tach.

My dash has the large in dash Tach and is working fine. The only thing that I know was not working was my oil pressure gauge. I found the wires for that unattached from it's plug and dangling over the transmission. I already replaced that pigtail and got it working. Been fixing lots of little things recently on this old suburban that I previously had just ignored and hoped would go away or fix itself. I signed up on a Chevy forum and asked about this pigtail on their Suburban forum. I am sure I could just zip tie it out of the way, but I'm on a mission now. I'll let y'all know what I find out.
