I never seem to be able to do everything I want to. I am close to haveing everything done. At the lease I'm on, you have to get all your tractor work done before bow season starts, so this last weekend was my last shot. You can only go into your areas middle of the day, 12-2 once bow season starts.. I pretty much got tractor stuff and planting done best I could with the time I have. This thing called a job they pays me seems to get in the way. I need to move a ladder tree stand, but I really need help, someone to hold it while I take the ratchet strap off.
I have one more cell trail cam I forgot to put out and one is not working. Will get those done when I go back in two weeks.
Moved one feeder and put two new others out. I buy two spots so I get 4 hunting areas, I have two box blinds and two bow stands. 3 of my spots have food plots, not large ones but takes a little work. Largest plot I have is about 2.1/2 acres, maybe 3. The other ones are small 1/4 acre maybe half.
I bet I'm not the only one that's had enough of the heat and humidity. I like to fried on my tractor the last couple of weekends. But the hardest part was cutting branches with a polesaw, East Texas can grow up around you like a jungle.
Its so dang hot I am not even gong to think about bow hunting until later in the Oct. I am not seeing anything but pigs on my cams anyways
Everybody ready for season to start, did you get all your chores done.
Thanks, Billy
Thanks, Billy

I never, ever get everything done. By the time I get "everything" on my list done, I have added to the list.
I agree about the heat and humidity. My first hunt will probably be the third week in Oct. Most of my bowhunting will be in OK in November.

Next year will be the third year I've planned to put rain guards above my windows.
By the time I get around to do it...................my blind will be rotted.
Thanks, Billy

It needs another coat of paint, rain guards screwed on, window magnets hung and the blind put on it's 6' base which is in place and the blind is sitting 10' from it. Hopefully this weekend!

rather be on the coast fishing (new boat this summer probably factors in)
I am sure once the first cool front comes through I will get motivated

With the arrival of a baby this year and a lot of recent lackluster seasons, my motivation to go sweat is rather low. Thankfully my brother-in-law took care of feeders and some of the mowing a few weeks ago (hey, I would've helped but he didn't call me; honest!). I plan on getting down in the next few weekends to do some work around camp, a bit of bow hunting if the heat and mosquitos cooperate, and maybe even some dove hunting.

I am ready but the deer aren't...to hot and what few acorns are on the Live Oaks are starting to hit the ground. They are scattered around and making it difficult to pattern any deer right now. No consistency on them anywhere..except water with 100 degree temps the last week now.

Our main issue is always about getting the the weeds cut and lanes cleared of overhanging limbs. We try to do all the cutting in mid September, since we wait until the rancher removes his cattle, and it's too hot for one, and if it rains, (which it does happen) in a few weeks, it looks like it was never cut. Most of the blinds and other minor chores gets taken care during the off season as we don't usually abandon the place completely after the season.

I would like to think dad and I are ready, but we aren't 100% done yet. We've been working our tails off the past couple of months though.

Way behind. I'm through with the pushing to the edge of heat stroke crap. It'll be what it'll be.

Done for the most part, I do need to replace a box blind but just haven't got around to it. I know most aren't finished, I see trailers full of stands and feeders headed out the Friday before season.

I've been busier than ever this year, working on stuff since early June. It's hard to keep going with this heat. Moved five feeders 4-5 yards each to get them out of the holes the hogs have dug around them over the years. (When it rains a lot, like last year, it turns into a muddy swamp.) I hung PVC pipe on all 15 legs to keep the raccoons off the spinner plates. (They were getting lots of my corn even though I have varmint cages on all of them.) I repainted and "decorated" three box blinds, replaced carpet in one and made several other repairs. Cut some new shooting lanes and did lots of never-ending trimming and cutting. Added a home-made salt lick in a new location. Many other little chores in camp.
I've been doing all this with a bad hip. Doc told me I need a hip replacement in July. I told him I have too much to do now and I sure wasn't going to do it during deer season, so I postponed surgery until January, running on anti-inflammatory and pain meds until then. Hope I don't screw it up between now and then.
You never get done preparing for deer season. You just keep finding more things to do until you run out of time.

We are good to go - last work weekend we got all the mowing and food plots done, cameras moved, blinds cleaned/repaired, and all feeders back up and running. We have 3 blinds we did not get set out but we have loggers in one corner and we are waiting for them to finish.

After retiring, I sold my tractor and all the implements and have adopted a much easier approach to chasing after deer that I no longer hate near as much. After putting up a tripod on a small, 80-acre tract that has never been hunted, I added a ground blind and ladder stand this weekend. I'm honestly looking forward more to killing hogs than deer since they are what the landowner despises most. No feeders but just a small area that I over seeded with rye grass. As for deer, anything smaller than what I've taken in the past will get a pass. It's all about the experience of just being out there for me now.

Didn’t think I was hunting this year, buddy came across a place last week and we ended up leasing it. We’ll see what happens not expecting much but the thought of being in the woods is enough excitement for us this year. Feeder and pop-ups this year, work on the rest after deer season.

Mowing, brush/tree trimming, stand repairs and camp cleanup done! Feeders filled, batteries changed, timers set. Rifles / scopes zeros confirmed A couple minor trailer maintenance repairs still need to be done Season must be getting close, woke up Saturday morning with a swollen neck and a testy disposition and went outside and tore up a small bush for no apparent reason.

Replacing a feeder and repairing a blind shooting ledge and maybe a little more weed cutting will get done next weekend. Been working like a dog out there with that crazy wet spring overgrowth. Wife's rifle zero checked, still have to check mine. Main ranch road still needs to be trimmed but that was supposed to be done by the other members. That's a whole other issue that will be addressed after the season!!
