Will a coyote jump a 3' hog panel fencing to kill/eat 3 40 lb hogs, or do you think it is stray dogs? I ask this because this happened to me last Friday. I have 3 stray dogs on camera that have never been seen before, but neighbor says it was coyote. I've had my hog pen in place for 4 years without any issues until 3 40 lb hogs were killed last Friday. My gut says it was stray dogs but need some input. Three sides of the pen is 6' hog wire with only one side being 3'. If it was dogs they ate most of the hind quarters on 2 of the hogs.
Im butt deep in hogs. My personal opinion/observation is that the yotes only mess with the little ones in a trap. if there are big ones with the little ones, they don't go in.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.
Boy, if I say "sic em", you'd better look for something to bite. Sam Shelley, Rancher Muleshoe Texas 1892-1985 RIP
If the dogs were them big white sheep dogs, I am betting it was the dogs. I have had some bad dealings with that type of dogs. Most owners of these animals, do not feed them right and they fend for themselves.
Look for how they were killed. A coyote latches on behind the jaw under the throat. Look for bite marks there. A coyote will cut open the belly and eat first the heart, liver, lungs If they kill a smaller animal they will take whole or chew half and take half. This is what I have seen after 30 years of having problems with them. Dogs bite them everywhere.
Pics Added of suspect dogs and the kill, note fencing on hog pen only one side is 3' high. Killers had to jump the fence no other access points found. Dogs or Coyotes?? If dogs they were starving.
Thanks everyone for the help. Of the 3 dogs 2 are now sleeping with the fish. I have the big male dog on camera the last 2 nights just have to figure out how to catch him.
Yes pigs were domestic id has them for 6 weeks, gave them needed shots and were fat and healthy. I raise 2-3 per year for family and friends. Nothing better than home grown pork.
I have a pretty nice hog pen setup, always shaded, protected from north wind by hay bales and upside down cracked water tank serves as hog house. Never expected this. Next fall when I get hogs I'll have 6' high hog wire covering the last side.
