Very interesting observation of all this sub sonic loads, went from increasing velocities to crazy high back down to handgun velocities and they still kill. Why not just use a rifle in a handgun caliber? Not anywhere knowledgeable about this just enjoy the discussion. I went from 30-06 to my Marlin 44 mag, just as dead and less mess.

Why not just use a rifle in a handgun caliber? Because most shooters have suppressors that are 30 caliber or less. You can't shoot a handgun round (9mm, .355", 40 cal, .400" or 45 cal, .452") through a 30 caliber can. If you go to a handgun caliber with a suppressor big enough to shoot it, it's limited to only handgun rounds, and not rifle rounds. It would require 2 suppressors instead of one.

I load my 308 subs for a 16.5" Rem 700 bolt gun with 10.3 trailboss and a 180g Hornady interlock RN and it makes nary a sound. Kinda like bouncing an empty 3 liter bottle off a piece of wood. My air rifle makes more noise. Feeder at 95 yards. Deer neck shots drop like a sack of potatoes. Feral hogs a little trickier. Have to make real good ear shot but will drop them on spot with right shot. Otherwise have to track. Its a hoot. Normally dont use for deer hunting just hogs. But in the event a good one surprises you its not a problem......
