Anyone ever use this? Thoughts?

Read the label as most I have seen are mainly Rye Grass. At times you can buy a 50# bag of Rye Grass cheaper than one or two bags of Throw and Grow products. You can add a bag of clovers and/or brassicas to your Rye Grass as you throw it out also. Rye Grass can be thrown on top of the soil and when it rains enough it will sprout and grow.

I tried it twice and it never worked.

I don't think it's as simple or effective as advertised. You still need to disc or plow or rake the ground. I had success one year with a small ambush plot. Took me forever to clear the area, kill the weeds, get the soil conditioned. Eventually got the seed down, and it did well. Shot my first bow deer out of that spot. There was a corn feeder and we were hunting a pecan orchard, but the deer came straight to the plot first. I'm sure others have mixed success, but throw and grow is false advertisement in my opinion, it's not that easy.

I intend to try the approach this coming season on a small tract where the landowner doesn't want me to use a feeder. I'm going to follow the steps that someone recommended here that includes spreading the seed and then mowing the area to cover them with grass clippings. As someone also suggested, I picked up a bag of rye grass seed and will mix it with fertilizer and a small bag or two of mixture seed once the weather forecast calls for a good chance of rain.

We have done it for the past two years with good success. The only prep was brush hog the fence line. Had good luck with oats, Austrian winter peas and clover. You do need to time if with rain in the forecast.

How well did it come up? Once there was some rain, did it spring right up?
