Gene Williams in Princeton. He blueprinted, bedded, and did load development on a 7mag for me. Solid work at a fair price.

I would look at Shilen in Ennis. Not a bad suggestion. My only attraction to savages is the ability to DIY with a barrel from a manufacturer such as Shilen. If you’re wanting a custom chambered barrel I highly recommend Scott Weichel. He’s out by Lake Ray Hubbard.

Shilen in ennis. That's the beauty of savage, you head space with the barrel nut. No need for a smith really, buy a pre-fit.

I'd like the brales or my money back at this point.

I suggest do it yourself install. Lots of prefix barrels out there. I've swap several from 300 win mag to 223. Takes less than 30 minutes with $100 setup of tools.

I just bought a quality prefit from proof Research, the wrench to change it, the go/no go gauges, and the new recoil lug for $585 shipped. I have done savages before but this will be the first time with my tools. Should be less than an hour to do it right. If you decide to go this route I can loan you the tools since we’re kinda country neighbors at 25 miles or so.

You can rent the go-no-gauges from a couple different outfits.
I too have recently tried myself to reinstall a barrel for a recoil lu upgrade. It went perfectly fine. I've shot my rifle since it so far has performed admirably. Slight bragging: shot me a 1.8" group at 300yrd, which is a best for me during reload testing. Btw, it is Shilen barrel, just the regular not even the match. If you happen to decide to give it a go yourself, then pm me. I might be able to help you out on your initial tool costs.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!
