I'm looking into buying one. And I was just wondering if anyone had any info on them? I was just wondering on what brand I should go with. I want it to have a wood stock. And info would be great. I've looked at the browning's and savage's. Thanks for the help.

I also have a Tika in 270WSM. it is accurate with a smoth action and light weight, matter of fact would not hurt if it was a pound or so heaver. It does shoot well under 1moa with most fatory ammo. Recoil is rather brisk but not that bad after I put a limbsavers pad on it.

+1 on buying the Savage and putting the extra $$ into glass. I've got a model 11 that drives tacks.

I am a Winchester Model 70 fan. Take a look at the Model 70 Featherweight in 270WSM. It is a great rifle!!

Brand is just personal pref., I am a Browning fan so I would suggest to check out the browning abolt stainless stalker or the xbolt hunter. From my experience it is a great shooting round w/ a wide variety of reload options. (but we tend to stick with the 130gr tsx or 140gr accubonds)

I have a couple of 270WSM's and really like them.
But be warned, if you are not a reloader, ammo will cost you a lot more than a regular 270Win. And as a practical matter you won't see much difference in the performance on deer.

Thanks for all yalls oppinions. I dont reload ammo I know someone who does though. I just thought it would be more accurate then a regular 270. I have a remington 30-06. And I just dont feel comfortable shooting it long distances. So I was looking for something hunt white tail deer and maybe a elk or two. At up to 500 yards or so.

A recent guns and ammo article was done on the 270 WSM with a whole page of hand load data. The article was favorable and there are some advantages for reloading and accuracy in the short, fat cartridges compared to the long slender ones.

rayman: I'm not knocking the 270WSM. As I said, I have two of them and like them. But, as a practical matter, there is not really that much difference in the field between them and the old '06. For example at 500yds (your max listed range for elk) the 30/06 with 180gr Accubonds has 1491 ft-lbs of energy, versus 1555 ft-lbs for the 270WSM (140gr Accubonds). I doubt any elk would notice the extra 64 ft-lbs! Yes the 270WSM shoots flatter, it drops 16.5" from a 200 yard zero, versus 22.8" for the 30/06. But you still have to hold over by almost a foot and a half. So what's the big deal of holding over a little less than 2'?
Not trying to pop your bubble. We guns nuts agonize over minutia, myself included! But, if your goal is to shoot elk out to 500 yds, you might be better off buying a range finder and some extra shells for your ol' '06 and practicing at longer ranges. just IMO, FWIW.
