This---- "Colt released a statement on Thursday to clarify the decision, which was made because the company simply isn’t selling enough of the rifles in the civilian marketplace to continue devoting the resources into it — a pattern that may be attributed to Colt rifles’ $1,000+ price tag and a market supplied with lower priced competitors."

Yes I think it’s more of market move due to lagging sales than anything else.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Their sales are down because due to quality control issues their guns aren’t really worth what they ask for them. I noted the other day that for the first time in I don’t know how long I don’t own any Colt ARs. When I made the move into BCM, Noveske, Daniel Defense, Sig MCX and Q I found that I could get a HELL of a lot more and better for what Colt wanted.
So at least for me personally, I’m still spending the $$ just not with Colt.

Colt has been plagued with poor management for many years. They've stopped production of civilian rifles before. Damn shame.

Earl I read that colt is top tier number alpha and waaaaaay better than a smith, ruger, DPMS, or RRA.

The company's president and chief executive, Dennis Veilleux, said that the consumer market has "experienced significant excess manufacturing capacity," and that Colt believes there are enough rifles on the market for the foreseeable future. Colt will instead focus on fulfilling military and law enforcement contracts.

Colt cannot manufacture their rifles as inexpensive as their competitors...this is exactly the same as the Winchester Model 12 vs. the Remington 870 Wingmaster. The Model 12 is the best pump shotgun ever produced but was forced off the market when Remington found ways to produce the 870 Wingmaster at a much reduced cost. Sad, but a good example of capitalism at its best.

They are better than the ones you listed, but not better than those I listed. They were top tier but the tier has passed them by. Purchased their new Colt CM762 rifle two months ago for $1400. For a 308 and its features its a heckuva deal IMO. Their 6920 line, not so much.

Tell me why Colt can’t adapt to current manufacturing methods, making a more affordable rifle? Sure feels like Blockbuster movies, just in the firearm world. Watch yourself sink while everyone else adapts and does just fine.
Also, what contracts do they still have with military/LEO, and how does one research this info?

I have a hard time believing colt is actually any better than anybody else at anything other than stamping “colt” on their products.

I don’t know if Colt has any military contracts right now. HOWEVER, they do own the M4 TDP or technical data package. ANY company making a military M4 that adheres to the requirements of the TDP must pay Colt royalties until 2050. They might have cut corners on the QC staff, but they got damn good lawyers. Colt released this the same day they announced no civilian sales for now. https://thedefensepost.com/2019/09/20/colt-contract-m4-m4a1-13-countries/
