This place had it all, skeet shooting, pistol range, tactical bays and rifle from 50-1,000 yards not far outside of Austin in Liberty Hill. They've been in a lawsuit for the last year or so with a local developer and now their website says they are closing for good at the end of this month. Now I need a new place to shoot past 300 yards.

From their website:
http://www.texasshootingrange.com/

We were notified that beginning Monday, August 26, 2019, we will not be allowed to have rifles of any kind used on the range. Contrary to rumors circulating, no one has been injured or killed by gunfire from the range. However with this information we will, with much sadness, be closing Best of the West effective on or before, September 29, 2019, as we cannot financially sustain operations.
Over the last nine years, we have enjoyed each and every one of you. Words cannot express how much we thank you for your patronage, loyalty, support, encouraging words, and ideas to help us. We have developed friendships that we will always remember and appreciate.

If you have a yearly membership, we will prorate and send you a refund as soon as possible.

Again, thank you all so much for everything you have done and for growing Best of the West with us. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers, the LTC instructors, and all the law enforcement agencies that use the range for training and qualifications.

Sincerely,
Millard Grantham and staff

they did it to Collin Co Range on 380

when they want to build houses, they will get the city to back them up

Then you 'd have to pack up

That's what happened to Top Gun in Leonard. The houses came in behind the range and the noise and danger of the range changed that.

Hate to hear that. Last I had heard they had closed down the rifle range because of the troubles.

I've only heard rumors, so keep that in mind, but sounds like what has happened elsewhere. Developers want to build homes and claimed bullets were leaving the range. Judge made them cease fire on all rifle ranges while the case is pending and they couldn't support that long term.

That area of Central Texas is growing and their property has frontage on Hwy 29 which is experiencing a lot of the growth. Will be interesting to see when and who develops on and near where the range is currently.

Small time gun range I have gone to for years in Comal county between San Antonio and New Braunfels has had issues with the same. As far as I know they have been in on again off again fights with developers and subdivisions to shut them down but have stayed open as far as I know. They are located in an old gravel pit and have a max 100 yard range.

Just remember the owners of the land will make BIG bucks selling it to the developers. Owners may have not put up much of a fight. I have wondered why airports that are surrounded by housing additions after the airport was there are allowed to continue operations. One bullet might mean one death, one plane could mean 200-300 or more deaths.

Range I shot off shotgun leagues off of 380 for several years was closed due to development. The owners of that range told me they could retire from the sale of the land and their range.

This is true and that area is growing rapidly. I've wondered what the balance sheet of gun ranges and golf driving ranges look like as I'm sure they aren't cash cows but are sitting on gold mines.

Eagle Peak is closer to town and surrounded by houses but only goes to 300 yards. I need to try Copperhead Creek on Hidden Falls Adventure park.

Technically my range is on flood plain, and I've seen it 3' deep in water to the 400 yard line for 8 hours. Seen that about 6 times the last 6 years. Beyond the 800 yard line is more flood plain, and a humongous creek. Not saying I'll never get shut down, but it is unlikely.

Sucks to mow on muddy ground. It is what it is.

That's the only reason elm fork and garland haven't been shut down

Airports typically have restricted areas around them in place where you can and cannot build. Also have areas that they restrict what you can build.
