We have several lock ons in Young Co....had to do some tree work to get them up. South Texas, we could have plenty with the river frontage, but nowhere else on the place. Up in Paducah, we have some and actually have two climbers, finally found a couple of straight trees in a river bottom.

I'm in East Texas and have plenty of choices. I have two tower stands and going to put one in a tree soon.

Every once in a while I find some trees I can use lock on stands but very little use for a climber. I have two Summit brand climber stands and I use to use them when I went hunting on a friends place out in Nacogdoches. Lots of tall pines and they worked very well. Here where I live where the Post Oak Savanah meets South Texas brush meets the edge of the gulf coast...well, there's just a few hard woods - oaks and pecan, and lots of mesquite. Tripods stands work really well for me. I mostly use a 12' tripod or a Double Bull ground blind.

i've never used a climber i think because i have always been big 6'4" 260+ kinda worried about safety of them at this size but i have had buddies that used climbers on telephone poles out in the middle of no where and you could see them almost 600 yards away like a sasquatch hidding in an Easter Basket but surprisingly did very well as far as taking animals.

Plenty of trees in NE Texas - all shapes and sizes. I use climbing stands and I thought I was big until I saw a few guys here. 7mag and Hunter Ted...and a few more. Oh and I'm 6'2" and weigh 250+...so get that climbing stand and don't worry about it.

I hunt around Sam Rayburn so there are plenty of tall pines. I have a double seat 12' ladder, a 16' single seat ladder, a climbing stand and just was given a 12 foot home built tower.
I joined a lease a couple miles west of Zavalla last week. Mostly family on it. I think its around 3000 acres. Sweet deal at $385 a year. Everyone has been getting at least one buck a year and if they want a doe, there are plenty. We are allowed to tag out if you want. Being I am the only one in the house that eats deer, one a year will do me.

It is a mix of old pine, clear cut with strips of trees and old pine/oak woods along Hawkins/Sandy creeks. My cousin has been on it for years and he tags out every year that he is not in Iraq. I think of the 17 of us on it, 70% are family. It borders another club on 2 sides and family land on two sides.
I was looking a few months ago at a lease on 1818 and they wanted 650 for newbies plus 1250 a year. I did get a great deal.
