Wow, I have several boxes of the 140 Amax blems and the factory first as well. I can’t tell them apart by color, weight, or dial calipers. I also had some 225g .338 interbonds that we’re of the same quality.

That had to be a QC classification issue. Manufacturers have different levels of rejects. These got away from them somehow.

I have never bought blems that looked like that. I am assuming your talking about the lead tip?
I have never bought factory loaded ammo where the tip looked as good as what you have pictured.

I bought a bunch of 225gr 30 cal blemished from Midway a few months ago and maybe 10% have plastic tips broken off. I think I have learned my lesson.

I'm 99% certain that would be a Sierra blemish bullet. I bought a large quantity purchased by weight of some Sierra's and had the same issue. The lead nipple will easily break off and the donut looking thing pulls right off. It is certainly a blem bullet, and requires some effort to shoot them. But the 308 bullets I shot did fine once you prep them. But for the price, they weren't worth it.

Bought some 44 cal. 240 jhp that looks like Hornady XTP, out of the 50 I grabbed out of 100 count bag, 4 were .452 . That's ok since I have a 45. All the 44 and 45 seconds look, load and shoot fine.

Those are made like that so you can use it as a pencil lead to take notes with while shooting them! LOL

Given the time and effort required to reload, why would you buy Blemished bullets?

Given the time and effort required to reload, why would you buy Blemished bullets? I’ve never saw anything like what the OP was showing in the review. Blemished bullets are described as having a discoloration that does not meet specs. What he’s showing is outright rejects that got in somehow. Seconds is a different animal as well, I wouldn’t purchase seconds.

I had good luck with Nosler blems from Shooter’s Pro Shop until I didn’t.
A batch of .338’s would not stay on paper at 100 yards. Then some tried and true 150 Partitions in a tried and true .308 were running 10” - 12” groups at 100. I packed up everything and mailed it back.
HUGE waste of time and money. NEVER again.

I would not buy blemished bullets. For the effort from case prepping to measuring to the kernel, its a waste of time and effort to use blemished bullets when my intention is to shoot tight groups and making excellent hunting ammo. I rather buy quality bullets if I spent that amount of time on the bench.

I’ve had excellent accuracy with blems but some of these post are making me second guess buying them again.

They are still usable with some work. No I don't want them and they are much worse than what you usually see as blems, but you can cut the tips off and load them. I definitely wouldn't consider them for precision or quality ammo, but there is a portion of the shooting public that doesn't chase tiny groups they chase pennies per bullet.

Some companies, like Berger, will never sell a blem. They only want the top bullets to be on the market. Hornady sells some blems, but their blems are usually very minor. Sierra's blems are totally different, and I've seen some very obvious blem bullets in rough condition, like these pictured. The severity of a blemish bullet varies from different manufactures. The Sierra blems, IMO, are not worth the purchase and the issues they have. Hornady blems, I have seen still in very good condition, and have shot some very tight groups with their blems. Overall, the blems are not worth the purchase for me and I stay away from them.

I've shot hundreds of blems/2nds from Nosler and Midway/Hornady, and couldn't tell them from new. They shot like new as well.

Ive got two bags of nosler partition "blems" on my loading bench about to get made into ammo in the next day or so and the only thing I can think of is they were overruns and had a canelure? They appear perfect in every other way.
