We've been through 41 tons of protein thus far. Another 7 tons in the hopper. Will probably be buying another 12 tons. (or more) Horrible range conditions in NE Webb Co. 1,800 acres.

holy hell ya'll are slinging some corn! We have 12 pens on 7000 acres and it's a PITA to keep up with!
the bulk of feeding is on the roads. Most of the guys will burn through 150-200 lbs a weekend through the road feeder. that draws them in way better than the 2-4 lbs out of a broadcast feeder.

Very interesting post. Lots of different plans when it comes to feeders. I own 162.5 acres corner ranch in Young County, meaning we have a FM rd in front and gravel rd on the east side and high fence on our south. We run seven corn feeders and two protein feeders. The protein feeders have hog panels around them. We have lots of thick mesquite woods with three 1/2 acre food plots. The protein feeders are setup so they can't be hunted from stands. We have seven stands, though we usually have two or three hunters at any one time. With game cameras on all the stands/feeders and couple of trails we get a pretty good idea of the deer and hog movements.
According to most here we're on the overkill side of the equation when it comes to feeders per acre. My neighbors and I work with our local game biologist on our game management program. We agree on which bucks are shooters and which ones aren't as well as how many does we can take. Our guest that come out to hunt usually see deer, whether or not their shooters, that's a whole nother story!
Distance is not an issue, but the wind can make it interesting!

I don't know what the price of feed is, but when you measure it bu the ton I dont even know what to think. I don't think my salary could cover that much feed if it were my only expense.

230 acres. Four corn feeders. We load with a corn/soybean combination. We start slinging in September and end in January.
