I've been a smoker for 50 years and finally decided it's time to quit. Today is day 30 since I smoked my last cigarette. It's not getting any harder to not smoke but it's not getting much easier either. These cravings suck!!!

The time between cravings does slowly increase but you can find yourself craving one years later.

I quit last year guess I'm lucky when I quit I really wanted to cause I've only had a handful of times I have been really pissed off and wanted one but that soon passed.

The most disappointing thing for me was I was expecting all the great RE-newed Taste, Smell and all the other great stuff they talk about happening when quitting, the only real difference I noticed is my truck and clothes don't stink and maybe I breath a little better but I gained 10 pounds.

My dad quit after 50 years. Said the urge never left him. He just got better at ignoring it.

Hang in there and think about the extra time you'll get to spend with loved ones.

I quit 27 years ago. I still consider myself to be a smoker, just non-participating. You have a looooong habit to break, don't cave, you've done the hardest part, now it's just breaking the habit of a smoke after eating, a smoke while pooping, etc. I still miss those. smile

Congrats and "Just say No!"

Try sitting in front of a campfire with a cold one in your hand.

I quit drinking over 40 years ago so that won't be an issue.

Have the mentality, "Nothing will ever control me"

I quit dipping over 8 years ago, cold turkey.

You got this Mike. My dad was a smoker and died of lung cancer in 1987 when I was found 18, I can still walk by and tell if it’s a Marlboro. I never met my father’s father due to lung cancer as well. I have a Uncle that quit a couple of years back and it was hard but he did it.

I smoked for 45 years. I almost died from Legionnaires disease two years ago. I was hospitalized for 3 weeks. The urge never really goes away. I also gained 20 pounds.☹️

Every time you get a craving google smokers time lines, read what your body is currently fixing and that there is an end in sight. I quit 3.5 years ago the day my second daughter was born

I smoked 32 years, 3 packs per day. At that time I was paying appox. $17.00 per carton. I bought me a new John Deere 50 Horse Power and payed for it with my cigarette money, $16,000. I kept with the accounting until it was paid for. I promised my wife that I would not smoke another cigarette until I had at least paid for the tractor. I quit June 11, 1990. The tractor is sitting in my shop with appox. 650 hrs. I told my wife when I die that tractor is still mine and do not sell until she dies.
I would tell myself that I was not going to smoke today. I knew I could make it another 24 hours without smoking. I was not going to worry about next week or next month, I was just worrying about today.
GOOD LUCK

Good luck, but I promise the hardest part is the first two weeks and you are past that now. Like others have stated you will get cravings here and there. I quit May 11, 2009 and last month was of my biggest craving since week one, but it only lasted a few hours.

Funny story...my dad quit when I was in HS about 30 years ago. He gained quite a bit of weight for a short man. First thing he did was quit drinking Budweiser and started drinking Bud Light. Next thing he started doing was "exercising". I came home from work one afternoon and I could hear my mom's stationary bicycle going 90-nothing. I walked back there and my dad was on the bike, watching TV...and drinking a Bud Light!

You got this bud, I quit snuff 18 years ago this month. Lemon drops were my friend.
