Sorry for your situation, been there once with the family Beagle. The hardest part for me was watching how it bothered my sons.

I still have my wife's ashes. I plan to bury them with Muffin when she dies. How old is muffin now? It seems you had that dog for 30 yrs. Dogs are part of family, i don't care what people say, heck, some human beings shouldn't be part of family.

Things like this break my heart. I have only missed 2 days at work in 6 years, 1 was too sick to move without soiling myself, 2nd was the day after I had to put my beloved Zeus down, 10 year old Boxer who had cancer. I was a wreck. It hurt so much. I already dread that I have 6-7 years left with my Buddy now Justace till another sad day that will come.
Small tip: Remember try not to be selfish and keep him around for yourself. Nothing I love as much as I love my buddy (s) and nothing will cloud that decision for me when it comes again. Sometimes that actually helps making the decision when it needs to happen. It is a very tough call. I am praying for you and your pup.
Hundreds of happy days they provide for one truly sad day, week or even month, remember time really helps.
Respectfully.

. Shane we are brothers in our love for dogs. I went through this 4 years ago and it was quick and painful happened so quick. The docs got him some more time on Thursday when this all began. It may be a day or 6 months and bittersweet is a understatement, but I will take it every day of the week and do it again.

We just put down our Rottie about a month ago. She had nose cancer and eventually had a stroke. I’ve had to put down 4 pets and it never gets any easier. I’ve also lost four animals that died suddenly at the house and I would take the sudden death over euthanasia every single day. Not sure how big your pup is, but if they are large, something to consider is how you will get them in the car if they have a stroke, are in pain and can’t move. We had to bring our 80 pound girl out of the house on a blanket and it took two of us to get her into the car.
I would also find out where your nearest 24 hour vet is located. We may just have bad luck, but almost ever one of ours have gone downhill right after 5PM or on the weekend when our vets office was closed.
Thanks, Rich

When you live a long time and have had several Pups as I have, you will have to do the deed. So sorry Bud, for you and your buddie. I have over the years had my Vet (2 different Folks) come out to the house, in the Guys comfort zone to let them go in my arms. I think it Is better for them at home with the smells and peace around them. Still think about the Sweet Pup's everyday. Ask your vet and if He doesn't do it, get another Vet.

My pup has Congestive Heart Failure and will need to be put down any day in the next 6 months. I do not know your circumstances, but 5 years ago my wife's Chihuahua was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I didn't really believe it, so I thinned her down, got her outside more and was much more careful what she ate. She is still kicking at 12 years old and is much healthier overall than she was 5 years ago. You might consider a second opinion unless your pretty satisfied that the diagnosis is correct. Thanks Mike, I have had every test done and was not satisfied with a XRay so we did a eco with internal medicine. The valve on his left side is not functioning correct and his right side is enlarged and is not contracting to pump the blood to his body. I spent Thursday evening reading about DCM in Doberman Pinchers. I had two vets who looked at him tell me he could make it for now to absolute best case 6 months. I am comfortable with the diagnosis and consider this dog hospice. In his specific case his heart is weakened and will not recover, and will worsen. Basically he is alive with 4 drugs to keep the fluid out of his chest and push the heart to pump harder. I am comfortable with the diagnosis, but like any pet owner I struggle with the reality. My condolences, losing a friend like that is tough.
This cannot be fixed at the voting booth.. Wake Up You Morons!

Sorry to hear. Mine is getting on in years too. Ive lost dogs before and it is hard. Our beagle now is my little boy and girls first dog. She is great with them, they both would lay on her bed with her in the living room. Its going to be a bad day when something happens to her.
At least we will have my wife to take care of us, she isn't a dog person, but I believe in the past 7 years that puppy love has even won her over as well.
Hope it goes as well as it can for yall.

My pup has Congestive Heart Failure and will need to be put down any day in the next 6 months. I am trying to prepare for taking him to vet in the future. My question is if I am out of town with the pup, do I need paperwork showing ownership when I walk in?? Boy is stable today and comfortable, but when his heart further weakens it will be time. I am thankful the drugs have given us a little more time. Hi Ramsey, so sorry you are going through this. I have been following on FB. I think your dobie will let you know when he's ready. just as long as he's not in pain. Me and Jessie are praying for you both. It never gets easier.

I have never been asked for proof of ownership by any vet.

We have done it three times this way. Saving them the anxiety of having to go to the Vet was of immeasurable import. They aren't scared. Does not make it any easier, but saying goodbye at home is better for you and the pup. Our Vet is retired, and still came for the last two. I think he keeps his license for just this kind of stuff with old clients.

So sorry Amigo. When we remodeled your house we became pretty good friends. I remember when he would run the neighborhood and pizzed that one guy off. He would always come back as happy as he left. I could see the bond you two had when he was little and it sure has grown. Prayers and thoughts to you Brother. I put Gauge, my 16 year old lab down last week. One of the hardest and best things I have done at the same time, I wouldn’t let him suffer.
Need to share a drink, holler.

So sorry to hear. I know the hurt. It’s the price of having a great friend, but it’s a very steep one for sure.
